A Day in the Life: What You Will Do As a DSP, you are the heart of our mission: empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). You will gain direct, hands-on experience in high-value skills that will set you apart in your field: + Patient Care & Support: Provide respectful, hands-on assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), personal care, grooming, and mobility. + Healthcare Skills: Gain experience in medication administration, monitoring physical and mental health needs, and preparing nutritious meals. + Case Management & Advocacy: Serve as a patient advocate and participate in the development and implementation of Individualized Support Plans (ISPs). + Clinical Documentation: Complete all necessary documentation of care, service provision, and medication logs—a critical skill in all healthcare fields. + Behavioral Support: Learn to implement positive behavior supports, follow person-centered support plans, and use de-escalation strategies.
