SUMMARY

The Driver Trainer and Safety Ambassador is responsible for performing and training drivers to load, unload, and deliver dressed poultry, oil, hopper, drayage, and contract backhauls and other inbound and out bound products and materials to plants, customers, and distributors. While meeting DOT requirements and regulations and within Perdue’s rules and policies. The Safety Ambassador will be a Safety Champion and act as a leader providing education and mentorship to company drivers.  Driver Trainer needs to be willing to train in both OTR / Regional Short Haul capacities at various locations. 

PRINCIPAL AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Train drivers to load, unload, and deliver dressed poultry, meal, refined oil, contract backhauls and other inbound and outbound products and materials to plants, customers, and distributors as assigned.Ensure drivers observe and maintain all Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements regarding hours of service, logbook, vehicle inspections, load inspections, safety inspections and securing load.Train drivers on how to operate a tractor and trailer in a safe manner consistent with all Federal, State and Local laws, regulations, and Company policies.Ensure drivers conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and completing reports as required by Company policies.Train drivers on how to complete all Company paperwork to include but not limited to pay envelopes, overage, shortage, damaged claims, and trip reports.Educate drivers to understand and use Perdue’s telephone system, voice response, and satellite system to communicate with customers, dispatchers, and supervisory personnel.  Participate in continuous safety and leadership training provided by Perdue.Act as a Brand Ambassador by monitoring drivers’ pre- and post-trip inspections, support company guidelines, and enforcing PPE and Dress Code Requirements.Support Leadership with New Hire Orientation in the facilitation of material for new hire drivers both in classroom and driver settings.  Assist in re-training and post-accident education.  Ambassador will coach drivers when needed.Conduct safety evaluations. Perform other tasks as assigned by leadership.


A trainer will be a safety champion – recognize safety hazards and address them with leadership.

Success criteria will be based on knowledge of safety information, safety regulations and procedures.

Ambassador will be a positive influence, mentor, and support to help retain trainees.  Any training failure will forfeit Ambassador eligibility for a period of 6 months.  

REQUIRED: 

Strong training and mentoring capabilities with excellent communication skills.Possess a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a minimum of 4 years over the road experience.Risk Safety Score 90 plus points in 90-day period.Any chargeable accident, violation OR Fleet Safety points at Perdue must be at least 1 year old.No Seat Belt or Mobile Device Violations in the previous year. OTD Delivery Above 95% in 90-day period.
