This is a 9-month contract position with the potential for direct hire. The Distribution Field Technician will be responsible for field inspections and data collection of overhead and underground electrical distribution equipment. The role involves compiling field data, preparing minor work orders, and maintaining distribution equipment reports. This position requires daily reporting to the Grand Rapids office.
ResponsibilitiesConduct visual inspections of electrical distribution equipment both overhead and underground.Compile field data collection and prepare maintenance reports.Measure and map Low Voltage Distribution (LVD) systems.Identify and record electrical equipment on poles.Perform field technical services including system inventories, audits, joint use management, permitting, pad-mount inspections, ground-line pole inspections, metering, and apparatus services.Conduct lighting audits and perform data collection using electronic devices such as laptops, tablets, and GPS.Develop a working knowledge of National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and utility construction standards.Operate equipment like height sticks and range finders for utility pole measurements.Achieve weekly billable goals as defined by project guidelines.Essential SkillsHigh School Diploma required; Associate's degree preferred.Minimum age of 21 years due to company policy for driving and passing MVR screening.Experience in field data collection and analysis.Proficiency in GPS mapping and data collection.Knowledge of NESC codes and utility field work.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with utility distribution lines, overhead lines, and pole analysis.Ability to work with customers, landowners, and clients to facilitate power utility asset replacements and upgrades.Experience in design analysis and pre-field work planning.Work EnvironmentThe technician is required to report daily to the Grand Rapids office. From there, they will be assigned to another team member who will drive them to the day's location for data collection. Most work sites are within an hour's drive from the office.
