Job Title: Distribution Designer

Job Description:

Join a fast-growing engineering consulting group that has expanded significantly in Western Canada, focusing on Infrastructure and Utilities projects. We are seeking a Distribution Designer to be part of our Utilities Division in New Westminster, BC. This role involves liaising with project stakeholders, completing project designs, and performing quality assurance functions. The position supports a rapidly growing team delivering projects to various utility clients, primarily focusing on electrical utility infrastructure. We value individuals who take ownership, are career motivated, well-organized, and detail-oriented with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

Essential Skills

Electrical Engineering Technology Diploma (preference for BCIT Power program) or related industry experience in distribution. One to four years of design experience in overhead or underground utility power distribution. Field experience will also be considered. Strong oral and written communication skills.Proficient in MS Office and AutoCAD software.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience in the design of BC Hydro Underground or Overhead power distribution systems.Experience using SPIDAcalc, PLS-CADD, DAD, and/or Passport.

Responsibilities

Design overhead electrical infrastructure according to client and national standards and requirements, with some underground design.Use SPIDAcalc non-linear pole line analysis tool to evaluate pole design and create non-standard overhead line design solutions.Utilize underground cable pulling calculation software, such as Pull Planner, to confirm design solutions.Employ load balancing and fuse coordination software for distribution system improvement projects.Provide design for any non-standard/engineered solutions.Prepare design packages for review and submission, including Pole Replacement/Maintenance, LPT/PMT/Livefront, Feeder Design, Smart Meter, Customer Driven 3rd Party Attachments, Automation, and other BC Hydro Programs.Check and review the work of peers.Prepare issue for construction packages.Coordinate with clients, co-workers, subcontractors, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders.Attend project meetings and conduct site inspections and reviews.

Work Environment

The work environment is an engineering consulting setting, typically quiet and focused. The team consists of about 40 people and is growing. The role operates under a hybrid model, with three days in the office and two days from home.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $85000.00/yr.
