The Distinguished Scientist is the primary ACM OU Strategy, Clinical Need, Market and Product interface role in the Research and Technology group and for the Acute Care Monitoring business. The Distinguished Scientist provides scientific leadership for new technology and products development in the AC&M operating unit.Specifically, the Distinguished Scientist should have knowledge and experience in methodology and process of scientific exploration as well as technology development for medical devices. In addition to expertise in technical field, a strong background in the area of physiology, patient monitoring, airway access, neuro and/or hemodynamic monitoring is preferred. Particularly, experience in early technology development in medical device is highly desired.Attitude, be comfortable dealing with ambiguity, and to be confident about being able to apply business acumen to help make pragmatic trade-off decisions between time-to-market, product costs, product reliability, product features, and budget.Working with clinical KOLs around the world, understanding their needs and translating the needs and potential solutionsWorking with both internal and external teams, finding the right expertise around the globe to develop a solution.Responsibilities Include:
Produce R&D technology roadmap that support the product vision of the business.Key member of Research & Technology and Open Innovation.Key contributor of the strategy direction of multiple technologies in our portfolio or adjacent technologies.Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the evolving clinical, marketing and technology trend in relevant field. Leading the effort of generating the Need Specification for new products.Understand Customer Needs / Clinical Problem that are both spoken or unspoken.Produce detailed Problem Description via Gap Analysis of disease state fundamentals and the basic anatomy and/or physiology.Work with cross-functional teams to develop Market Description.Performance Stakeholder Analysis.Identify Barriers of Adoption for new technology and products.Close collaborate with marketing to execute Market Analysis, understand and estimate Market Potential and Competitive Landscape.Translate customer need to specific Need Criteria that include Product Features and Functions; Performance Requirements, cost and Price range, Characteristics.Provide input and be a key contributor to the development team that is responsible to establish Technical Feasibility,Have a thorough understanding of design control procedures, regulatory submissions, and standards related to AC&M products.Conceive, design and supervise the execution of the required preclinical and clinical studies to support product development.Work with the regulatory teams to understand the market space and assist with device submissions and regulatory questions.Mentoring and developing the technical expertise of the new Tech Dev/Pre-concept team,When required, represents the organization as the prime technical contact on projects.Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.Responsible for the initiation, design, development, execution, and implementation of scientific research projects.Investigates the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions and products.Plans and executes laboratory research.Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the art principles and theories and may contribute to scientific literature and conferences.May participate in development of patent applications.May coordinate interdepartmental activities and research efforts.Differentiating factors

Key Skills & Experience
Required Knowledge and Experience: Requires a Baccalaureate degree and minimum of 15 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree with a minimum of 13 years relevant experience OR PhD with 11 years relevant experience.PhD preferred or equivalent with specialization in Biomedical, Optical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering10+ years of medical device industry experience with focus in product development.Familiarity with the BioDesign process and “Design Thinking” with Immersion and Empathic approaches.Experience with Early Stage Research through Commercialization of medical deviceExperience with pre-clinical research, protocol development, and clinical studiesExperience with Regulatory interactions such as drafting technical justifications/rational, participate in pre-submissions, and generating key documents for final submissions.Ability to work with cross-functional teamsExcellent communication skills and essential Project Management skillsHas a background in coming up with invention disclosuresThorough understanding of Design control, risk assessment, and regulatory requirements.Advanced knowledge of and experience in applying engineering principles, analytical techniques and judgment to resolve major technical issues and establish new methods, controls & procedures.Nice to Have
