What is the Opportunity?
The GRM Operational Risk Team is responsible for providing independent and objective oversight of operational risk management for the businesses across the WM Segment. The purpose for the Director role is to provide dedicated focus on the global GAM business and is twofold:
(1) to ensure that the operational risk profiles across the GAM regions and entities have been established, kept current and demonstrate a fair and accurate representation of operational risk exposure and
(2) to engage in key GRM Operational Risk projects, initiatives, and activities to meet department priorities.
This role partners closely with the business to facilitate the implementation of the operational risk framework and sound risk management practices across the business platform
What will you do?
Act as a leader in ORM
Deliver the vision and execute the ORM plan.Foster strong stakeholder relationships to enable active and collaborative working relationshipsDrive a culture of integrity and behaviors that align to RBC’s Code of Conduct and professional standardsWork collaboratively across teams, enabling an engaged workforce who are effective, knowledgeable and adaptable Foster an environment of continuous personal growthDirect the Implementation of RBC’s Operational Risk Management (ORM) program and practices
Contribute to and execute on the vision, strategy and operating model for operational risk managementDirect the implementation of core operational risk management programs and practices to ensure accurate view of Operational Risk ProfileSupport implementation of ORM initiatives (e.g.: Internal Control Management Policy) and monitor for adherence to requirements, escalating concerns where requiredIdentify trends and direct research into areas of perceived elevated or emerging operational riskProvide Operational Risk advice and monitor key & emerging risks
Provide ORM risk mitigation strategies (and /or related area of expertise) and advise senior management and executives in understanding and managing operational risk across multiple domainsChampion behaviours that embed a strong risk management culture across 1st & 2nd LODProvide oversight on the design and effectiveness of the internal control environmentLeverage operational risk data and analysis to provide management with insights to support decision-makingConduct Independent reviews to provide a perspective to 1st Line of Defense on emerging risks and trendsBring 1st Line of Defense insights from external sources such as ORX, Industry Events, Industry Best practicesEnable regulatory change, OR governance and reporting
Support Management to respond to information requests by regulators, supervisors, and statutory bodies (as required)Provide appropriate expertise and support to the GRM Head of Operational Risk UK for them to be able to effectively discharge their duties under the Senior Managers and Certification Regime.Identify and develop guidance material designed to support 1st Line of Defense interpretation and implementation of regulatory requirementsMonitor and analyze the design and operational effectiveness of a platform’s control environmentReport operational risk-related reporting and insights, and partner with the business to enhance reporting where required, to support executive management to build a perspective on operational risks and emerging trendsDevelop a story board to provide a profile of operational risk, leveraging risk dashboards, metrics and other information sourcesWhat do you need to succeed?
Must-have
8-12 years of experienceExperience in risk management, good knowledge of banking regulatory requirements and best practices related to risk management practices globally Experience of being part of complex projects working at Global levelDepth or breadth of risk management experience (1LOD or 2LOD) Proficient in risk management methodologiesSkilled in building a network and maintaining key relationships. Strong negotiation skills and ability to partner with multiple stakeholders Direct operational risk experienceNice-to-have
