Reporting to the Human Resources Director, this is a senior leadership role with real influence – combining strategic impact with hands-on delivery in a fast-moving, consumer-facing environment.

 

The Role

As Director of HR Business Partnering, you’ll lead strategic HR partnership across Screwfix, providing expert counsel to senior stakeholders and ensuring our people agenda is fully aligned with commercial priorities. You’ll inspire and develop high-performing HR teams, oversee exceptional operational HR delivery through Shared Services, and play a central role in defining and delivering the People Strategy that underpins operational excellence.

 

You’ll act as a visible and trusted HR leader, championing our culture and values, driving change with confidence and using insight to shape decisions that support sustainable growth. The role is based at our Head Office in Yeovil, and our expectation is that you would work in a hybrid way with, 3 days per week spent here.

Responsibilities Lead and deliver strategic HR business partnering across the full Screwfix estate, supporting transformation and growthAct as a senior, visible HR leader, ensuring consistent delivery of HR change programmes and initiatives across all disciplinesPartner with the HR Leadership Team to define and deliver the Screwfix People Strategy, aligned to Group HR prioritiesBuild strong internal and external relationships to influence decision-making and enable exceptional HR deliveryWork closely with the Director of Talent to align capability, skills and development interventionsSet the vision for the function, developing team capability and embedding a high-performance, accountable cultureCollaborate with senior leaders on strategic workforce planning and proactive talent acquisitionEnsure all operational and transactional HR activity is delivered effectively, compliantly and to agreed standardsChampion simple, transparent and practical HR products, policies and processesDrive succession planning and talent pipelines within the HR functionEmbed agile, test-and-learn ways of working and a mindset of continuous improvementUse people insight, dashboards and KPIs to focus HR activity on the right prioritiesProvide an external perspective on the future of work, innovation and organisational effectivenessContribute to Group people strategies as a key member of the HR Leadership TeamManage functional budgets effectively to maximise impact and return on investment Qualifications

About you

You’re a commercially minded, values-led HR leader with the credibility and confidence to operate at the most senior levels of the business. You bring a deep understanding of the full HR agenda and thrive in fast-paced, multi-site, consumer-facing environments where pace, pragmatism and people insight matter.

 

You’re comfortable balancing strategic thinking with hands-on delivery, and you have a proven track record of leading high-performing teams through periods of growth and change. With strong emotional intelligence and a collaborative style, you build trusted relationships, influence effectively and bring others with you on the journey.

 

You’ll bring:

A professional qualification or postgraduate degree in a relevant disciplineExtensive senior-level, generalist HR experience across all HR disciplinesExperience in a large-scale, fast-moving, multi-site organisation (retail or consumer-facing preferred)A strong commercial mindset, using insight and data to shape people decisionsProven leadership experience, developing capability and raising standards across HR teamsExperience of organisational growth, transformation or change programmesConfidence operating within a matrix and/or plc environmentA pragmatic, resilient and delivery-focused approach, with high standards and attention to qualityThe ability to think strategically, plan with vision and translate strategy into actionAbove all, you’re an inclusive, visible leader who sets clear expectations, champions collaboration and creates an environment where people can do their best work.
