Director of Finance
Description We are looking for an experienced Director of Finance to lead the financial operations of a Government entity based in Williamsburg, Virginia. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the organization's financial health, compliance with regulations, and alignment of resources to support community programs. The ideal candidate will provide strategic financial guidance, oversee key processes, and collaborate with leadership to drive fiscal responsibility and long-term planning. Responsibilities: • Direct and oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and financial analysis. • Prepare and present accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with regulatory standards. • Manage cash flow, grants administration, and funding compliance to ensure optimal resource allocation. • Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard organizational assets and ensure compliance with policies. • Lead the annual audit process, serving as the primary contact for external auditors. • Develop financial strategies and recommendations to support executive leadership and the Board of Directors in decision-making. • Collaborate with senior management to evaluate program costs, support development initiatives, and plan for long-term financial sustainability. • Identify and monitor financial risks, creating effective mitigation strategies. • Supervise, mentor, and develop finance team members, including recruitment and performance management. • Ensure proficiency in financial systems and tools to enhance reporting and analysis capabilities. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. • At least 7 years of progressive experience in finance or accounting, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role. • Familiarity with public sector funding sources, grants management, and regulatory compliance. • Proven expertise in budgeting, financial forecasting, and strategic financial analysis. • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. • Advanced proficiency in financial systems and software, including spreadsheet and data analysis tools. • Experience working in non-profit, government, or human/community services organizations is highly desirable. • Strong understanding of financial reporting standards and audit processes.
