As Director of Contracting, for the U.S. Medical Surgical Portfolio, you will lead the end-to-end contract lifecycle management processes. This high-impact role combines strategic deal design with hands-on execution, operational leadership, program management, and people leadership. You will oversee deal structures, pricing and contracting programs, technology-driven solutions, and ensure legal and regulatory compliance. Your leadership will drive continuous improvement, cross-functional alignment, and innovation in contract management, leveraging Request Management, CPQ, CLM, and AI systems.

Strategic Leadership & Process Design

Design and implement scalable end to end commercial strategies and roadmaps aligned with business objectives.Execute governance policies for quoting, contracting, and commercial processes, leveraging technology and best practices.Serve as a change agent, driving adoption of process improvements and best-in-class contracting standards across the organization.Lead or support the deployment and optimization of pricing and contracting systems from intake to analysis to contract management

People Leadership & Team Development

Attract, develop, and retain high-performing individuals; provide coaching, feedback, and career development.Foster an inclusive, diverse, and collaborative workplace culture that reflects Medtronic’s values and customer communities.Guide, train, and evaluate a team of analysts, ensuring adherence to service levels and compliance standards, and business outcomes.Assume budget and resource management responsibilities for the team.

Contract Lifecycle & Operational Execution

Oversee the end-to-end contract lifecycle: drafting, reviewing, negotiating, executing, storing, monitoring, and renewing contracts.Lead the contract redlining process, acting as the primary liaison between internal stakeholders (Sales, Legal, Finance, Marketing, IT) and external customers or vendors.Manage contract templates, playbooks, and standard clauses for consistency and legal compliance.Drive the adoption and continuous improvement of contracting tools, programs, and workflows to enhance efficiency and reduce administrative burden.Ensure timely contract execution and approval, balancing speed, risk mitigation, and compliance with healthcare regulations.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Serve as the subject matter expert for commercial contracting, facilitating complex deal structures and non-standard requests.Collaborate with sales, marketing, contract & pricing, legal, finance, compliance, IT, and business owners to achieve operational and strategic goals.Support new product launches and go-to-market strategies through effective contracting and pricing programs.Partner with technology owners and cross-functional teams to systems and drive process improvements.

Program Management

Lead and oversee contract program governance, ensuring timelines, deliverables, risks, and dependencies are actively managed and aligned with business objectives.Establish and drive standardized program management processes, metrics, and reporting to improve visibility, accountability, and cross-functional execution.

Required: 

Baccalaureate degree and minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with 7+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with 7+ years of managerial experience.

Nice to Have:

Proven experience in contract management, quote-to-contract operations, or a related field within healthcare or regulated industries.Demonstrated leadership in managing teams, cross-functional projects, and technology-driven process improvements.Strong knowledge of healthcare regulatory requirements and contracting best practices.Hands-on experience with CLM systems, CPQ, Salesforce, and AI-powered contract tools preferred.Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.Experience in med-tech, healthcare, or life sciencesAdvanced financial modeling, analytics, and executive communication skillsExcellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with senior management and external stakeholdersStrategic thinking and ability to translate business objectives into financial strategiesDeep expertise in pricing, contracting, and commercial executionProven ability to lead in a matrixed, fast-paced commercial environmentExcellent decision making, analytical, and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail and accuracyExperience driving business transformation and process improvement initiativesExperience mentoring, training, and managing people

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$168,800.00 - $253,200.00

 

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan.

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).

 

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns.  Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
