The Director of Broadcast Operations is primarily responsible for managing crews, producing and directing complex live athletic events that are distributed in UW athletic venues such as Husky Stadium and Alaska Airlines Arena, and maintaining and configuring Daktronics and Xpression show elements. The position is also responsible for producing academic video productions that occur at ICA facilities and/or other locations.
The successful candidate must exercise a high degree of analytical and creative thought in the process of managing live events, creating impactful, budget-conscious video messaging and programming for the University of Washington; maintaining a professional approach, proactive communications and a customer service orientation are essential attributes for the successful completion of projects assigned. In addition, the ability to build and maintain ongoing relationships with clients is essential to this role. Therefore, the position requires a high level of ability with respect to communication and dealing with a variety of people in the course of their daily work.
Reporting to the Assistant Athletic Director of Broadcast Operations, the Director of Broadcast Operations is a crucial member of the ICA Broadcasting Leadership Team and plays a key consultative role in setting priorities and providing direction for the unit. Along with providing leadership to the unit, the position will provide consulting and expertise to all internal stakeholders within ICA’s External Relations team and external partners. The Director of Broadcast Operations will help identify systems and strategies that effectively position the University of Washington Intercollegiate Athletics to utilize and benefit from new and emerging video production and distribution technologies. These technologies have the capability to assist the department to strengthen its visibility and its reputation as a first-tier international research university and provide tools for research and teaching faculty to more effectively engage students and conduct research and outreach activities.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
Execution, Oversight and Management:
• Provide direction and oversight to the production and significant amounts of visual content of video boards at Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium, Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec-Edmundson Pavilion, the Husky Baseball park, Husky Softball field and other venues.
• Ensure that all events are executed to the highest degree of quality and accuracy.
• This role includes the implementation of new video elements for the purpose of marketing, Husky Sports Properties sponsorships, and athlete-specific elements for UW Intercollegiate Athletics teams.
• Participation and management of live, on-site, in-venue video production for 160+ live athletic events each year.
• Maintain and manage all requests and necessary production elements for Daktronics Showcontrol and Ross Xpression.
• In addition to producing in-venue athletic events, this position would contribute to the scheduling, staffing and managing the production of B1G+ broadcasts (including weekly, pre and post-game press conferences) and official replay.
• Contribute to the hiring and scheduling of in-house production crews.
• Contributing to crewing and management of partnerships with external groups and staff such as official replay and other broadcast/ video partners.
Project Management and Communication:
• Provide leadership, direction and supervision to videographers, editors, and others assigned to projects that this position supervises.
• Consistently monitors, reports and communicates on the progress of the work projects.
• Interfaces with a variety of ICA, campus and external partners, including academic units, administrative units, and third-party entities, to successfully complete their assigned work.
• Create and maintain a workflow to catalog all recordings and summary game melts for archival needs.
• Execute and/or manage the video recording of internal department programming, including department meetings, official partner initiatives, ICA committee initiatives, special events, and sport-specific events and banquets.
Additional Roles:
• Producing and/or directing many other high-profile campus events which may include commencement, convocation, large-scale graduations, or other university events occurring at or near ICA facilities.
• Contribute, as needed, to live streaming events via B1G+ and StudentU and educational training and mentoring of student staff.
• Other duties may also be assigned.
Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, the Big Ten Conference, the State of Washington and any other governing body is of paramount importance to the University. The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations. As a condition of employment, the Employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**
• Bachelor’s degree in broadcast or related field required.
• Minimum of three years performing progressively more complex and responsible tasks producing television and video, with a focus on live sports coverage.

• Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to manage multiple competing priorities.
• Experience with Ross, Grass Valley, and Evertz systems.
• Effective communication, analytical, and facilitation skills to drive team collaboration and deliver results in dynamic environments. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously along difficult timelines.
• Proven ability to learn quickly, work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and to skillfully distill/synthesize emerging information to senior level staff.
• High level of personal integrity and ethics.
• Demonstrated commitment to promoting and supporting an environment of diversity and inclusion.
• Ability to work nights and weekends.
_Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration._ **DESIRED REQUIREMENTS**
• Familiarity with SMPTE 2110 protocols.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve workflow log jams between multi-generational equipment and software versions and make recommendations as to how to make a more efficient video production process.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical staff.
