Director of Beverage
Overview

The Director of Beverage owns and sets the multi-year strategy and financial performance for the Beverage and Beer & Wine categories, aligning category vision, investment priorities, and execution to Sprouts’ enterprise strategy and customer value proposition. This role leads and develops a high-performing merchandising organization, serving as the enterprise subject matter expert and final decision-maker for category strategy, assortment, pricing frameworks, and supplier partnerships. Reporting to the VP of Non-Perishable, the Director drives cross-functional alignment, full P&L accountability, and measurable growth in sales, margin, and customer engagement across the portfolio.


Overview of Responsibilities

Owns and sets the multi-year (3-5 year) Beverage and Beer & Wine category vision and roadmap, aligned to Sprouts’ enterprise strategy and customer value proposition. Oversee Grocery Beverage and Beer & Wine merchandising team while establishing priorities and assisting the team in the achievement of department goals. Builds a high-performing leadership bench through coaching, succession planning and talent development.Evolve and improve the merchandising strategy based on analytics, with strong cross functional partnership within the Merchandising departments.  Manage supplier relationships and negotiations, including cost, assortment and contract terms.Evaluate supplier performance and hold vendor accountable to negotiated terms as neededLeads cross-functional alignment across Supply Chain, Pricing, Marketing, Operations and Finance to drive enterprise-wide category execution and results.Serves as the enterprise subject matter expert for Beverage and Beer & Wine, influencing company standards, processes and policies.Owns full P&L performance for Beverage and Beer & Wine, including revenue growth, margin expansion, cost management and working capital efficiency. Accountable for final category decisions within Beverage and Beer & Wine, including assortment strategy, pricing frameworks, vendor selection, and margin targets; escalates only material risks or enterprise trade-offs to the VP.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree required; MBA or advance degree preferred10-12+ years of increasing experience in management of a department and/or as a Merchandiser Demonstrated advanced knowledge of Beverage and/or Beer & Wine products, categories, programs, origins and trendsPrevious buying/negotiating experience requiredRequires long-term strategic and financial planning skillsEffective communication skills, both written and verbalStrong interpersonal and team building skillsWorking knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and the InternetAbility to preserve confidentiality of information, communicate with all levels of management and work within strict time frames and resolute deadlinesComplete understanding of P/L statements, general ledgers, and marginsSome travel required
