What is the opportunity?
Are you a talented, driven, and motivated individual experienced in navigating complex environments while leading a large team of skilled practitioners to deliver exceptional results?
In this role, you will manage a team of project practitioners to deliver Personal Banking strategic project portfolio. You will assign, develop, assess, and oversee resources for end-to-end project and program delivery, ensuring business partners meet their goals and OKRs. Responsibilities include consulting, educating, coaching, and mentoring the team, while supporting RBC Leaders/Stakeholders by ensuring adherence to RBC’s delivery frameworks and Change Management principles. You will escalate and resolve risks/issues promptly, provide thought leadership, and promote execution excellence. Collaborating with the Value Office, you will track staffing demands and forecast future capacity gaps. Additionally, you will oversee succession and talent planning. As a Director, along with managing a large team, you will lead key initiatives to optimize program delivery, identify opportunities, and execute strategic plans to drive improvements.
What will you do?
Lead a team of 15+ full-time project practitioners (including some students/contractors) delivering Personal Banking’s project portfolio including various medium/ large scale projects of varying levels of complexity and risk (Investment, Delivery and Operational risk).
Mentor, coach, and develop Project Managers/Scrum Masters into accountable & independent decision-makers; identify and nurture talent for future growth.
Build a high-performing team by importing, exporting, developing, and retaining diverse talent with shared goals, fostering a culture of taking smart risks and innovating to win.
Coordinate and actively participate in weekly resource planning meetings, analyze allocation data, and ensure 100% allocation rates.
Provide leadership, coaching, and documented performance management (LIFT, Year-end Reviews). Support personal development planning and contribute to talent management strategies, maintain a skills matrix and coordinate annual Practitioner Capability Assessments for succession planning.
Oversee project practitioners, review project status reports, milestone artifacts, project plans, and issue-risk logs for accuracy and completeness.
Enhance technical/behavioral skills of Project Management Professionals via training in areas of PMBOK, financial acumen, Project Management frameworks (EIMF, AMF), and other functional areas (compliance, audit). Create a career pipeline for PM professionals and support in managing professional accreditations.
Lead target operating model initiatives, identify improvement areas, and execute strategic and tactical plans. Drive value through agile methodologies, growth mindset, best practices, and process enhancements.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have:
8+ years' Project/Program Delivery experience and 5+ years People Management experience,
Strong Project and Program management skills with exceptional communication and change management abilities, demonstrated through proactive initiative in connecting processes and systems to drive platform-wide transformation.
Proven ability to define metrics, drive data-driven decisions, and turn operational inefficiencies into measurable improvements, supported by producing clear, factual documentation that guides strategic discussions and decisions.
Ability to thrive in dynamic, ambiguous environments while managing multiple priorities with strong organizational skills,
Customer-focused, results-oriented, and skilled at influencing without formal authority through relationship-building .
Agile, possesses Business Agility knowledge with comfort applying modern delivery practices and AI tools.
Nice-to-have:
PMP and/or PgMP certification, with experience managing initiatives involving multiple teams and stakeholders, and navigating large-scale organizational change.
Post-secondary degree in business or business-related studies.
5+ years of experience working in a mid- to large-size corporate environment; Personal Banking organizational awareness is an asset.
Experience working with Planview and collaboration tools such as Confluence, Jira, Webex Teams, MURAL, and Connect (Jive).
