Position Overview:
Gilead Sciences is seeking a strategic and collaborative Director to join the US Medical Affairs HIV Treatment Strategy team. This leadership role will focus on optimizing the impact of the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) team through strategic insight generation, field engagement, and training initiatives. The Director will play a critical role in shaping and executing medical strategy by leveraging field-based insights, enhancing scientific exchange, and ensuring alignment with Gilead’s mission to advance HIV treatment and care.
Key Responsibilities:
MSL Strategy & Field Engagement
Lead the development and execution of strategic initiatives to support the US HIV MSL team.
Partner with Field Directors to ensure alignment of MSL activities with medical strategy and scientific priorities.
Drive excellence in field medical engagement through innovative tools, resources, and metrics.
Field-Based Insights
Establish and oversee a robust process for collecting, analyzing, and communicating actionable field insights.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Commercial, and Global teams to ensure insights inform strategic decisions.
Present synthesized insights to senior leadership to guide data generation, evidence planning, and stakeholder engagement.
Supports US and Global advisory programs, as needed
Training & Scientific Development
Creates US-focused medical training documents as needed to support field Medical Scientists. Design and implement comprehensive onboarding and ongoing training programs for MSLs, focused on HIV science, therapeutic landscape, and stakeholder engagement.
Ensure MSLs are equipped with the latest data, publications, and messaging aligned with Gilead’s scientific and medical strategy.
Partner with internal stakeholders to develop training content and delivery formats tailored to field needs.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Serve as a key liaison between US Medical Affairs and Global Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, and Commercial teams.
Support the development of medical communication plans, advisory boards, and congress activities.
Contribute to the development of medical content for field use, including slide decks, FAQs, and scientific narratives.
Qualifications:
BS/BA degree with 12+ years of experience or MS/MA degree with 10+ years of experience or PhD/PharmD with 8+ years of experience or MD with 4 years of experience.
MD, DO, NP, PA, PharmD, or other advanced health care degree with 6+ years of relevant industry/clinical experience in HIV preferred.
Deep experience in Medical Affairs, including field-based roles and strategic leadership.
Deep understanding of HIV therapeutic area and evolving treatment landscape required.
Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and manage complex projects.
Strong analytical skills and experience with insight generation and application.
Excellent verbal, written and visual communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Experience in training design and delivery for scientific audiences.
Ability to travel as required which may include occasional weekend travel is required
Preferred Experience:
Prior experience managing or supporting MSL teams.
Familiarity with medical insight platforms and CRM tools.
Experience working in a matrixed organization and influencing without direct authority.

The salary range for this position is:
Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
