Director, Plan Conversions – People Leader

The Director, Plan Conversions, People Leader plays a critical role in bringing new retirement plan business onto the Schwab platform. This leader provides clear direction, operational discipline, and a strong client‑first mindset while developing a high‑performing team that delivers accurate, timely, and compliant conversions.
In this role, you will influence stakeholders across the organization, guide clients through meaningful moments of change, and ensure consistency, quality, and excellence in every conversion experience.

 

 

What You’ll Do

 

Lead and Develop a High‑Performing Team

Build a culture rooted in accountability, partnership, and continuous improvement.Coach and develop conversion managers to meet and exceed performance expectations.Provide regular feedback, support career development, and strengthen talent pipelines.

Drive Excellent Conversion Outcomes

Oversee the full lifecycle of complex and high‑visibility conversion events, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and an exceptional client experience.Serve as the senior escalation point for plan sponsors, consultants, and internal stakeholders.Partner closely with legal, operations, product, technology, and compliance teams to deliver seamless transitions.

Strengthening Client and Stakeholder Relationships

Act as a trusted partner to plan sponsors and external consultants, guiding them through each stage of the transition.Communicate proactively and transparently to build confidence and reduce risk.Influence and align internal teams toward shared commitments and client‑focused outcomes.

Provide Operational and Strategic Leadership

Monitor capacity, performance trends, and business risks; deliver insights and recommendations to senior leadership.Champion process improvements that enhance quality, reduce variability, and support scalability.Ensure conversion practices consistently meet regulatory standards and internal controls.

Support Strategic Prospect and Client Initiatives

Act as Conversion Manager for certain prospect and client relationships as needed in additional to Managerial Duties by supporting the sales initiative and the Conversion/Implementation process. What you have Bachelor’s degree or in Business, Finance, or related field—or equivalent experience.10+ years in retirement plan services, financial services, or a related industry with an emphasis on retirement plan conversions of defined contribution, defined benefit, and non-qualified deferred compensation plans.3+ years of people leadership experience, including coaching, performance management, and developing team members.Proven track record of performing conversion activities for mega and strategic clients with successful on boarding results and positive client and consultant feedback. Demonstrated ability to lead complex, cross‑functional initiatives with executive visibility.Strong communication skills with the ability to influence across all levels of the organization.A disciplined, detail‑oriented approach with a commitment to accuracy, compliance, and risk management.

Preferred Experience

Working knowledge of ERISA, IRS, and DOL regulations.Understanding of payroll processing, systems and/or payroll company experience a plus. Experience leading conversions involving mergers, acquisitions, or highly complex plans.Certifications such as ASPPA, PMP, Lean Six Sigma, CEBS, or similar credentials.
