Job Summary:

PwC Channel Islands is seeking an experienced and dynamic General Counsel to lead its Office of General Counsel (“OGC”) and support the continued growth of our Channel Island business. This senior leadership role is central to enabling the firm’s strategic ambitions and ensuring high-quality, commercially pragmatic legal support across the organisation.

The successful candidate will bring at least 8 years’ experience in providing broad commercial and corporate legal advice, ideally gained within a large corporate environment or at a top-tier law firm serving clients comparable to PwC. You will be a confident communicator, an effective negotiator, and a trusted adviser capable of influencing strategy in a fast-paced, innovative business.

No two days will be the same. You will work across a wide range of matters, including regulatory compliance, commercial contracting, governance, employment issues, and data protection. You will play a key role in embedding the OGC as a commercially focused business enabler.

The role reports to the Territory Senior Partner and COO, and will work closely with the UK Firm’s OGC, benefiting from access to an extensive global network and development opportunities.

Responsibilities:

Commercial & Contracting:

Lead, negotiate, and manage complex contractual matters, including non-standard client agreements, public sector contracts, global framework agreements, MSAs, and multi territory arrangements, standard client agreements, public sector contracts, global framework agreements,

Provide clear, pragmatic legal and commercial advice tailored to the needs of the business.

Regulation, Compliance & Risk:

Advise on AML/CFT, sanctions, data protection, and regulatory compliance across Guernsey and Jersey.

Partner with the Data Protection Manager to ensure GDPR equivalent compliance, including DPIAs, DSARs, and incident management.

Keep the business updated on changes in legislation and regulatory frameworks.

Governance & Transactions:

Function as the primary liaison for external counsel, ensuring efficient engagement and value for the firm.

Support major property transactions and broader corporate governance matters.

People & Employment:

Provide guidance on employment related matters across the Channel Islands.

Knowledge Management & Precedents:

Manage, develop, and maintain OGC precedents, templates, and guidance to support consistent and efficient legal operations across the business.

Collaboration & Leadership:

Work closely with the Territory Leadership Team while operating autonomously and managing a diverse, high-volume workload.

Collaborate with the wider PwC network on cross border engagements and global contracting initiatives.

Skills & Experience Required:

8+ years’ PQE (or equivalent) with strong knowledge of Guernsey and Jersey law.

Experience in a top‑tier law firm or in‑house role within a major corporate is advantageous.

Proven experience in commercial contract negotiation, AML/CFT compliance, data protection and privacy, corporate governance and employment law.

Exceptional drafting, analytical, and negotiation skills.

Strong commercial acumen with the ability to understand and communicate the broader strategic, reputational, and business implications of legal matters.

Adaptable, innovative mindset with the confidence to influence senior stakeholders.

Outstanding relationship‑building skills and the ability to become a trusted adviser across the business.

Travel Requirements:

This role may require occasional travel between the islands and may occasionally require further travel.
