The Director role within the Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) Tax team is a pivotal leadership position in a team at the early stages of its growth trajectory. The Director will play a critical role in delivering exceptional client service, leading complex transactions, and shaping a differentiated service offering. This role combines technical excellence, strategic delivery, and team leadership, with a strong focus on building client relationships and driving business growth.

Duties and responsibilities, as they align to Ryan’s Key Results

People:

Coach and develop team members, fostering a culture of learning, collaboration, and high performanceLead training initiatives and support the professional development of staffCollaborate with peers and contribute to building a strong, scalable team

Client:

Act as a key point of contact for clients, legal advisers, and internal teams to ensure effective deliveryLead complex transactions in collaboration with Principals, providing strategic and technical guidanceBuild and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring consistent, high-quality serviceSupport business development efforts, including proposal preparation and participation in pitches

Value:

Prepare and oversee detailed technical advice across UK and international tax issuesPerform and review in-depth analysis of tax-related documents and data, articulating commercial impactsCollaborate with UK and overseas tax specialists, critically evaluating and integrating their inputDemonstrate up-to-date knowledge of UK and OECD tax developmentsReview and prepare detailed funds flows and assess financial models from a tax perspectiveOversee implementation of client 100-day plans and other pre- and post-deal tax deliverablesManage engagement economics including fees, WIP, billing, and collections

Education and Experience:

Qualified CTA, ACA, CA or equivalentExtensive experience in UK corporate tax and transaction taxProven track record of delivering complex tax advice and supporting clients through transactionsExperience building and leading high-performing teams

Required Skills:

Strong commercial acumen and practical approach to tax advisoryExcellent interpersonal and communication skillsProven leadership and team-building capabilitiesDeep technical expertise in UK corporate tax and related areasAbility to manage multiple complex deliverables and meet deadlinesStrategic mindset with a focus on long-term client and firm success

Preferred Skills:

Recognised in the market for client relationship management and deal executionProactive in identifying and progressing business opportunitiesStrong analytical skills and a curious, commercial approach to problem-solving

Certificates and Licenses:

ACA, CA, CTA, ADIT or equivalent (required)
