What is the opportunity?
The Industry and Regulatory Engagement team serves as the segment conduit for internal and external matters related to the Canadian Bankers Association (CBA), government, regulatory, and industry bodies.
The Director, Industry and Regulatory Engagement will be responsible for identifying, developing, and coordinating information related to RBC’s position on industry and regulatory trends, issues, and risks. Working collaboratively with the CBA, regulators, and RBC Government Relations teams, this role ensures that government and regulatory policies affecting Personal Banking are implementable and aligned with organizational priorities and strategy. This role acts as a trusted advisor and key liaison to multiple lines of business, providing analysis and interpretation of proposed regulatory and industry changes, including new and emerging policy updates.
We are seeking a high-potential individual to join the team as Director, Industry and Regulatory Engagement—someone who can think beyond conventional boundaries, connect strategic dots, and provide thought leadership.
What will you do?
Engage internal senior stakeholders ensuring they are briefed/debriefed on the topics that are in discussion at the industry level
Work with appropriate stakeholders to assess the operational and compliance implications of regulatory proposals
Lead the development and coordination of RBC’s points of view and other information required for briefing packages for the Personal Banking Committee and other Committee representatives incorporating feedback across LOB’s as appropriate
Develop and maintain an inventory of advocacy strategies across Personal Banking that outlines recent progress, key matters for attention, and RBC’s overall position on the topic
Anticipate emerging policy trends and proactively identify risks and opportunities ensuring Personal Banking is aligned and prepared for future changes in the regulatory environment
Collaborate across Legal, Risk, Compliance and Business teams to ensure consistent and effective advocacy
Act as a trusted advisor to multiple lines of business on a wide range of regulatory and industry affairs, including new and emerging changes and policy updates through analysis and interpretation of proposed changes
Attend and update stakeholders in industry risk forums as Personal Banking representative where appropriate
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have:
10+ years of experience in risk, regulatory, government affairs, or professional consulting, including advanced knowledge of CBA and regulatory bodies
Strong understanding of risk governance and regulatory compliance frameworks
Post-Secondary degree or equivalent experience
Advanced communication, presentation, and facilitation skills for executive and board-level audiences, with ability to translate complex policy issues into clear actionable insights
In-depth knowledge of Personal Banking lines of business and experience working in cross-functional teams (both internally and externally) with well-developed business acumen
Strong problem-solving, analytical, research, and quantitative skills, coupled with a strategic mindset and comfort/ ability to deal with ambiguity and changing circumstances
Nice-to-have:
MBA or advanced degree in public policy, finance or related field
Strategy or Business Architecture experience
Risk management certification/experience
