WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?
Join RBC’s AML IT team in Toronto as a Director of Engineering & Build, where you’ll lead the development and innovation of mission-critical solutions for client screening, transaction monitoring, and investigations. This role is a unique opportunity to partner closely with the AML business unit, driving high-quality, scalable technology solutions that combat financial crime. You’ll guide and nurture cross-functional teams, leveraging a modern tech stack (Hadoop, Snowflake, Java/Scala, DB2, OpenShift, Azure) to deliver robust, future-proof systems. WHAT WILL YOU DO?
Lead end-to-end solution delivery for AML initiatives, ensuring scalable design and implementation across client screening, transaction monitoring, and investigations.Partner with the AML business unit to align technology strategy with business goals, driving innovation and efficiency.Guide and mentor engineering leads to foster high-performance teams and deliver high-quality, timely solutions.Oversee the tech stack (Hadoop, Snowflake, Java/Scala, DB2, OpenShift, Azure) to ensure optimal use and scalability.Drive architectural decisions to future-proof AML systems, balancing performance, security, and regulatory compliance.Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (e.g., Risk, Compliance, Technology) to ensure seamless integration and delivery.Identify and mitigate risks in project execution, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery without compromising quality.Champion innovation by exploring emerging technologies and methodologies to enhance AML capabilities.WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?
Must-have:
10+ years of experience in engineering leadership, with a focus on large-scale, complex systems (e.g., AML, fraud, or regulatory tech).Proven expertise in the tech stack: Hadoop, Snowflake, Java/Scala, DB2, OpenShift, and Azure.Strong leadership skills to guide and mentor teams, fostering collaboration and high performance.Deep understanding of AML processes (client screening, transaction monitoring, investigations) and regulatory requirements.Ability to balance technical excellence with business needs, ensuring solutions are both innovative and practical.Nice-to-have:
Experience in financial services or highly regulated industries.Certifications in cloud technologies (Azure), data engineering, or architecture (e.g., TOGAF).Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and DevOps practices.Strong stakeholder management skills to influence and align diverse teams.WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?
