**GENERAL PURPOSE:**
The Director, Employment Law will work on the Ross Legal team, as a member of the Legal and Compliance group in New York, working directly with business stakeholders and HR to develop, implement, and monitor employment related policies and practices to promote compliance and mitigate legal exposure, while effectively managing projects/claims\.
The position will report to the Sr\. Director, Employment Law, and will work directly with Human Resources and merchant organization executives and associates \- both independently and in coordination with the broader Legal team and the Employment Law Group, as well as other Legal Department and business team members\.
The base salary range for this role is $190,000\-$230,000\. The base salary range is dependent on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, qualifications, relevant education, certifications, seniority, and location\. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees\. Other rewards vary by position and location\.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:**
• Day to day employment law advice: Work collaboratively and responsively with a broad range of colleagues, facilitating a coordinated team approach to providing legal services including advice and counsel on the full range of employment law issues \(such as employee discipline, policies, leaves and accommodations, investigations, separation agreements, employee/candidate non\-compete agreements\), optimal litigation results \(agency, individual, and class action\), employment law training/skills development, and projects\. Assess risks and offer client\-focused practical solutions and options\. Effectively use legal knowledge, judgment, and business acumen to provide sound legal advice and options in order to facilitate business decisions and outcomes\.
• Claims management: Effectively and efficiently resolve demand letters and pre\-litigation disputes\. Successfully and independently manage employment litigation matters including assessing exposure, supervising discovery, and managing both outside counsel and internal resources\.
• Proactive compliance: Partner with HR and other stakeholders to track legal developments and develop, implement, and monitor policies and practices to promote compliance and mitigate legal exposure\. Maintain constructive relationships with clients, stakeholders and peers and work collaboratively to identify and assess options for resolving compliance issues\.
• Ross Legal team: Collaborate and build positive, productive relationships with team members at all levels across the Legal department\.
• Reporting and continuous learning: Partner effectively/collaborate with team members to ensure adequate reporting on projects, counseling/litigation outcomes and learnings, internal/external trends, legal updates and projects updates, and to develop a/or deliver effective employment law training\.

**QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:**
• New York and/or California JD with 5\+ years of employment law experience working at a leading law firm and/or corporate legal department counseling on employment\-related issues and managing employment\-related litigation; a strong preference for prior in\-house experience
• Broad and deep employment law knowledge; extensive experience advising on the wide variety of employment law issues that arise in a corporate environment including but not limited to investigations, policy development, HR projects, ADA/Leaves and improving compliance
• Effectively develop and maintain trusting relationships with a diverse array of business partners, while working collaboratively across layers and business units
• Flexible team player with exceptional interpersonal skills
• Strong business sense with excellent legal acumen, analytical, drafting and negotiation skills
• Exceptional organizational and project management skills with attention to detail
• Experience managing a large volume of work in a fast\-paced environment, while following through and meeting deadlines
• Excellent oral/written communication skills including ability to communicate clearly
**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ADA:**
This position requires the ability to work in an office environment, including using a computer, attending meetings, working as part of a team, and the ability to communicate with team members and others\. Regular attendance also is a requirement of the position\.
This role requires regular in\-office presence, including attending in\-person team interaction, meetings and collaboration, client support, mentoring, coaching, and/or feedback\. However, this role can perform duties effectively using a combination of in\-office and remote work\.\#LI\-Hybrid
**SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:**
While this position may not have direct reports, as an attorney with responsibility for managing claims and projects, there is responsibility to effectively delegate, align and collaborate with paralegals, analyst, and administrative professionals
