With over 30 years of organic growth, our hedge fund business has evolved from single-strategy funds into a fully-scaled global multi-manager platform, totaling more than $40bn in AUM. Our specialist portfolio management teams operate across two verticals: Equity Long/Short and Diversifying Strategies (macro, fixed income and credit). Position Summary
We are seeking to recruit a Director who will be both the business lead responsible for Diversifying Strategies, as well as a member of the leadership team of our Hedge Fund Group (HFG), which oversees the strategic direction and the investment talent for our growing hedge fund business.
This role will oversee a broad and evolving suite of macro, fixed income relative value and credit strategies and investors. The Director will be responsible for ensuring strong, repeatable investment results, the attraction, development and retention of talent globally, and the overall long term commercial success of the strategies. This position will be based in London.
The platform has undergone significant evolution over recent years—expanding its roster of portfolio managers, increasing dimensionality, strengthening risk allocation frameworks, and integrating more tightly across the firm’s global macro and multi-strategy efforts. The Director will accelerate this momentum, and will serve as the talent manager and an investment, operational, cultural, and commercial leader.
Specific responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following:
1. Talent Management: Attract, motivate, develop and retain world class investment talent. Foster an investment culture that balances the independence and focus required of hedge fund investing with integration into the firm’s broader, highly collaborative investment ecosystem;
2. Business Leadership and Strategic direction: Serve as a business leader, defining the long term vision and strategy of Diversifying Strategies, in partnership with the Head of the Hedge Fund Group and Investor Relations. Lead the execution of the business plan and manage day to day operations; partner with our client platform on fund and growth strategy, and with other investment business leaders to define the inter-connected talent strategy required to deliver outstanding performance for our clients;
3. Investment performance, integrity and risk: Provide fiduciary and supervisory oversight, ensuring our funds take risks consistent with client expectations; help Portfolio Managers to strengthen team dynamics, and execute a clear investment philosophy supported by a strong process and risk plan;
4. Infrastructure and support: Partner with Operations, Technology and other groups to scale the platform, enhance data and analytics capabilities, and maintain a resilient operating model.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate must be the utmost fiduciary, a strategic thinker and a problem solver. They will have a highly competitive drive, mixed with strong collaboration skills to activate the firm towards our commercial ambition. They are likely to have:
- 15+ yrs of relevant experience in macro or multi-strategy hedge fund business leadership, or related fields;
- Deep understanding of global macro markets, diversified strategy sets, and risk adjusted portfolio construction;
- Credibility as a manager of investors, with a proven track record of attracting, retaining, developing, and motivating investment talent, and the strongest ability to build trust-based relationships with investors. A laser focus on helping investors succeed, with a long term view on talent that combines excellence and rigor with flexibility and empathy.
- Strategic orientation with the ability to define and execute a strong business plan and financial model;
- Outstanding collaboration and leadership skills – able to work successfully with experienced, investors and with multiple functions across the firm;
- Strong organizational skills – able to manage, prioritize, and complete multiple projects simultaneously, and results orientated;
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills – able to articulate and integrate numerous viewpoints, and mobilize/influence across the firm, and represent the function internally and externally;
- The ability to navigate stressful situations with composure – a calming, pragmatic problem solver, and active listener;
- Prior management experience of investors (first-hand investment experience, either as an Analyst or Portfolio Manager, is advantageous).
