Overview of the Business:

Global Commercial Services (GCS) is the leading payment issuer and partner for businesses with products and services that help them grow and run their businesses.  The GCS Product Analytics team plays a pivotal role within the GCS Products organization by providing advanced analytics and statistical methodologies to drive deep insights into client behavior.  Our mission is to inform and shape product strategies and deliver connected, personalized experiences that foster deeper client engagement and drive sustainable, profitable growth. 

How will you make an impact in this role?

The Director, Business Banking Analytics will lead a global team in deploying analytics to drive growth and customer engagement across the American Express Business Banking portfolio. This critical role will serve as a key partner to Business Banking Product leadership, delivering data-driven insights that inform product strategy, enhance engagement and retention, drive feature adoption, and strengthen cross-product integration across the banking portfolio.

This role represents a unique opportunity to leverage applied quantitative experience to directly shape business strategy and requires a high level of expertise in driving decisions backed by data insights, deploying advanced predictive and statistical methodologies, leading strategic analytics, and designing scalable data assets. The ideal candidate will bring a unique balance of technical skills combined with a strategic mindset and the ability to communicate effectively. They will be able to work in white space with unstructured problems and build successful partnerships with a large variety of teams and business units to identify opportunities and influence outcomes.

Responsibilities:

Translate business problems and lead analytical workstreams that inform product strategy, customer growth initiatives, retention, and money movement optimization leveraging advanced analytical techniques including clustering, machine learning, and statistical analysis

Lead strategy and execution for creation of business banking transaction and customer data assets including migration of source data to cloud environment and design of sustainable, optimized data structure

Oversee end to end Business Banking performance reporting, including defining, forecasting, and measuring key performance metrics

Model business impact of banking product features and advise senior leadership on product roadmap decisions

Design, launch, and measure tests to drive product engagement, increasing deposits and primary account usage; Build analytical frameworks for robust measurement when clear A/B testing doesn’t existIdentify and build behavior-based segmentation to provide insights into customer behavior and drive recommendations for business prioritiesServe as subject matter expert for business banking portfolio performance, leading regular product performance reviews for banking leadershipManage and prioritize demands for data, ad hoc analytics, and reporting from multiple stakeholders, reallocating resources as necessary to ensure alignment with business priorities Provide leadership and coaching to a team of high-performing analytics colleagues as well as the analysts and managers on the broader Analytics team in areas such as application of advanced analytical concepts, test design, and effective presentation

Minimum Qualifications:

Relevant professional experience including extensive experience in hands-on analytical role(s) leveraging data to drive decisions, translate operational performance into financial implications, and influencing business strategies

Strong curiosity and initiative in tackling complex business analysis; dives deeply into the data, relentlessly pursues its meaning, and how these insights can drive business performance

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts and analytics-driven findings to non-technical stakeholders, and to explain business processes, concepts, and issues to technical resources

Proven track record translating business problems into data strategies and solutions, leading complex, multi-stage analytical workstreams, and advising senior leadership on data-based insights 

Good understanding of banking economics and performance drivers with proven success in driving business results via strategic analysis.

Team player with proven ability to influence and collaborate with others across all levels of an organization

Proven track record effectively managing priorities across multiple senior level keyholders and influencing stakeholders across all levels of organization

Proven ability to lead and develop team of product analysts, providing leadership and coaching to the team in areas such as application of advanced analytical concepts, sustainable data models, and effective presentation

Experience building sustainable data assets using cloud-based analytical tools, querying languages, and visualization software (e.g., SQL, Python, Databricks, Tableau)

Bachelor’s degree preferably in a quantitative field (e.g. statistics, engineering, math, science, economics, etc.) 

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

At least 9 years of relevant professional experience in hands-on analytical role(s) leveraging data to drive decisions, translate operational performance into financial implications, and influence business strategies; Financial services experiences is a plus

 Advanced degrees preferably in a quantitative field (e.g. statistics, engineering, math, science, economics, etc.)

Expertise in data science and advanced analytical techniques including clustering, machine learning, and statistical analysis

Salary Range: $144,250.00 to $256,250.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
