Join the Project Kuiper DevOps team as a Development Lab Technician II, supporting the hands-on execution of development hardware builds and tests. This role bridges mechanical and electrical workstreams to support rapid prototyping, test fixture builds, system integration, and development experimentation. You’ll work in partnership with Lab Engineers to execute clearly defined tasks, contribute to lab upkeep, and identify opportunities to improve process safety and efficiency.
Key job responsibilities
- Execute mechanical and electrical assembly, disassembly, integration, and test tasks on hardware and fixtures with guidance from Lab Engineers.
- Operate basic and moderately complex tools and equipment, such as multimeters, torque tools, microscopes, soldering irons, small mills, etc.
- Assist with setup and teardown of development tests, including instrumentation, sensors, and simple DAQ equipment.
- Participate in first article builds and document discrepancies, issues, or improvement suggestions.
- Follow ESD-safe practices and handle sensitive development components.
- Support lab organization, tool tracking, material staging, and cleanliness efforts (6S).
- Escalate work blockers and collaborate to develop workarounds under ambiguous situations.
- Engage in continuous learning and support new procedure development with Lab Engineers.
Basic Qualifications
- 1–2 years experience in a mechanical or electrical technician role (e.g., aerospace, automotive, fabrication, test, or machining).
- Familiarity with hand tools, measurement tools, and test equipment.
- Ability to interpret work instructions, basic mechanical drawings, or wiring diagrams.
- Comfortable working in a development lab where procedures may evolve during execution.
- Strong attention to detail, ownership mindset, and willingness to learn.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in aerospace, automotive, robotics, or other high-reliability development or prototyping environments.
- Familiarity with interpreting and working from engineering drawings, schematics, and build instructions.
- Proficiency with standard mechanical assembly practices, including torque specifications and fastener selection.
- Experience with hand tools, test instruments (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes), and mechanical measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers).
- Exposure to basic machining, rework, or fabrication tasks (e.g., using mills, drill presses, or band saws).
- Understanding of ESD-safe work practices and handling of sensitive components.
- Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and experience applying it during inspection or fabrication.
- Familiarity with industry quality standards such as ISO 9001 or AS9100.
- Experience contributing to process documentation or test procedure development in a hands-on engineering support environment.
- Ability to work with ambiguous or evolving procedures in a fast-paced, collaborative development setting.
- Certifications such as IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620, J-STD-001, or equivalent are a plus.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $73,840/year in our lowest geographic market up to $80,080/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
