The Designer I is responsible for the design, development, and release of models, drawings, and BOMs for battery cells, modules, and packs used in government, military, aerospace, and other high-performance specialty markets. This role supports the full product lifecycle—from concept design through successful production launch—by creating accurate design documentation, supporting prototype builds, and participating in design reviews. The Designer I works closely with engineers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet functional, manufacturability, and quality requirements.
ResponsibilitiesCreate and revise CAD models, drawings, and BOMs in a revision-controlled environment.Generate detailed design concepts and support engineering teams through the development cycle.Perform tolerance stack-ups and apply GD&T to part and assembly drawings.Conduct upfront FEA using SolidWorks Simulation tools.Define critical characteristics and inspection criteria for components and assemblies.Support prototype supplier sourcing and technical communication.Manage prototype part acquisition, inspection, and initial assembly.Prepare design review packages and complete follow-up actions.Design fixtures and tooling for prototype builds.Support measurement activities for critical characteristics internally and at suppliers.Meet team targets, KPIs, and contribute to continuous improvement.Follow all safety guidelines and maintain a safe work environment.Maintain reliable on-site presence, including occasional weekends or holidays if required.Perform additional duties as assigned.Essential SkillsProficiency in SolidWorks CAD software.Strong understanding and application of GD&T.Experience designing structural components using molding, casting, machining, or additive manufacturing.Experience with BOM management and drawing release in a PDM/document control system.Ability to perform basic FEA using SolidWorks Simulation.Experience supporting products involving electrical assemblies.Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.Ability to follow structured processes and maintain high accuracy.Additional Skills & QualificationsAssociate’s degree or higher in a technical discipline.1–5 years of design experience using SolidWorks or a comparable CAD platform.Experience with sheet metal or stamped components.Battery system product development experience.Phase-gate product development exposure.Design for Six Sigma project experience.Assembly design experience.Work EnvironmentTemperature-controlled engineering and prototype environment. Hands-on involvement with prototype parts, assemblies, and measurement activities. Requires consistent on-site presence to support engineering, prototyping, and design review activities. Occasional extended hours, weekends, or holidays may be required based on project needs.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
