Design Technician III Design - Indirect

PURPOSE

 

 

This is a third-level position, mostly likely promoted from within, requiring modular home drafting experience and proficiency with VectorWorks (or the CAD software being used by employer) and a substantially-developed knowledge of construction.  Candidates for this position must have at least six (6) months as a Drafter / CAD Designer II to be eligible.   

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Capability to undertake all Drafter / CAD Designer II responsibilities, plus: Designing trusses necessary for an individual project/build independently, accurately and effectively; Producing construction/production drawings to be used by the factory, including, but not limited to, the following: Fastener calculations for applicable forces (shear extraction); Floor framing drawings; Stair geometry and stair and railing details; Truss layouts; Production details (dormers, special ties, high wind details, etc.) Capably and independently navigate and select structural connectors; Consult with junior drafters needing guidance or assistance with learning job responsibilities; Review and markup drawings for accuracy, completeness, etc.;

Fluently navigate CabinetVision software to be able to prepare cabinet shop drawings;

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

This position acts as a team leader and directs the work of less-experienced technicians.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

All qualifications of CAD Designer II; A minimum of six (6) months experience as CAD Designer II, as well as an overall mastery of each of its job responsibilities.

 

COMPETENCIES

 

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
