As a Department Manager at Wegmans, you'll use strong managerial and leadership skills to manage and develop a team and ensure the overall success of your department. Departments may include: Front End, Grocery, Overnight Grocery, Dairy, Health & Wellness, Produce, Bakery, Meat, Seafood, Deli, Cheese, Market Café, Sous Chef. With an eye for merchandising and a passion for putting out the best products, you’ll be responsible for everything from department financials to product levels to employee development, while working to meet customer and store needs.
**What will I do?**
+ Manage and develop team of employees, engage in meaningful conversations, build trusted relationships and provide the resources, feedback, and development opportunities they need to be successful
+ Foster incredible knowledge-based service by creating excitement around new programs and products, identifying and implementing ways to build positive customer relationships and improving the shopping experience
+ Manage all department operations including efficiency, ordering, inventory, handling product or vendor related concerns, ensuring sales, contribution, diversity, development, and retention goals are met and using financial analysis, experience and knowledge to make decisions that increase profitability and control expenses
+ Ensure the freshest, highest quality products are available and offerings are prepared consistently using core recipes and techniques, use knowledge of product, benchmarking, and trends to plan and implement innovative displays and collaborate with other departments to align with merchandising standards, seasonal plans, company priorities
+ Ensure the team properly uses equipment and handles products, keeps accurate logs, follows department job aids, food safety, human safety and complies with Wegmans Policies, federal and state laws
**Required Qualifications**
+ 1 or more years of collective managerial/supervisory experience including interviewing, performance management, employee development and managing financials
+ Systems aptitude
+ Passion for food and people with enthusiasm to learn more about the product
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Experience overseeing the daily operations of a large team and/or a multi-area department
+ Merchandising experience in a retail setting
+ Experience ordering products and controlling inventory
