Job Summary

EMCOR Government Services has an immediate need for a Day Porter in Washington DC. The Day Porter conducts housekeeping at the DOT Headquarters site in Washington D.C. This position is covered by the CBA for SEIU Local 32BJ.

The work schedule is Wednesday - Sunday 8:00am -4:30pm

Essential Duties & Responsibilities Daily interior cleaning of the building including emptying waste receptacles, debris and trash removal, vacuuming/shampooing floors and carpets, dusting and cleaning furniture, cleaning and restocking restrooms, washing walls, polishing, mopping floors, placing down mats/runners in inclement weather, cleaning up spills, cleaning windows and window coverings, etc., in accordance with established procedures and as directed by a Supervisor.May be required to perform exterior building and premises cleaning and basic maintenance, including exterior walls and windows, parking lots and structures, walkways and paths, gardens and lawns, outdoor furnishings, fountains, curbs/gutters, exterior hallways, and stairwells, etc.May be directed to assist with minor maintenance such as replacing batteries for touchless faucets and toilets and plunging toilets.Other assigned duties (depending on the building, facility, and client needs) may include gardening and lawn care, assisting with inventory control and supply ordering, snow removal (including salting/ sanding).Expected to promptly notify management of spills and emergency situations, need for major and minor building/facility repairs, lights that are out or broken, broken equipment and fixtures, damaged structures, ruptured pipes/plumbing, problems with heating/cooling and ventilation and any other observable safety issues/concernsExpected to properly and safely use and operate related equipment, tools, devices, and chemical/cleaning agents, including mops, vacuums, electric polishing machines, power tools and equipment, and special cleaning solutions in order to efficiently perform the duties and to avoid harming floors, fixtures, individuals, and themselves Qualifications Two (2) or more years of experience in housekeeping on Commercial-Industrial building equipment.Be able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of housekeeping procedures and technologies.Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents in English.Knowledge of safe use of cleaning agents and equipment used to perform job dutiesReliable, thorough, observant, organized, flexible and courteousEffective listener and team playerUnderstand written or verbal instructions from the designated supervisorPractice the necessary safety protocols and proceduresFollows through and carries out work ordersMust be able to communicate with supervisors and co-workersMust be willing and able to work any day or night shift scheduleMust be willing to work evenings or weekends (on call) in case of an emergency.

 

Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand or walk for extended periods; use hands to finger, handle; or feel; reach with hands and arms; talks or hear and test or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach and handleAll of these requirements are necessary for using ladders and stairs, cleaning low areas, high areas, benches, and cornersMust be able to lift/carry 50 pounds and push/pull 50 pounds in order to clean work areas and handle supplies and equipmentWork in conditions that will create dirt and dust.
