Job Title: Data Scientist
Salary/Grade: £49,519 - £61,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Location: Peterborough

The opportunity:
As a Data Scientist, you will be an integral part of our dedicated analytics team, contributing to the development and deployment of innovative business solutions. You will support electrification and enhance understanding of machine and battery performance with respect to customer requirements. This will involve developing mathematical algorithms, coding solutions and analysing results to provide insight to the wider business.
Our mission is to support our customers in the energy transition by delivering high-performance and technologically advanced electric vehicles and solutions. Extracting insights from complex datasets, you will influence high level decisions and be part of a team to drive the future of machine power solutions through innovative data analysis. This is a collaborative role, working closely with multiple cross-functional teams across Caterpillar.
What you will do:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to collect, preprocess, and analyse complex data sets related to vehicle electrification, including battery performance, charging infrastructure, and energy consumption.
Predict and improve battery health, degradation, and lifespan through data analysis.
Work with team members to develop predictive models for customer behaviours, charging patterns, and energy consumption to optimise vehicle electrification strategies.
Develop your understanding of battery electrification, machine analysis and data science techniques by conducting research on data model optimization and algorithms to improve effectiveness and accuracy on data analysis.

Strong background in numerical techniques, quantitative and statistical analysis.
Mathematical curiosity and proficiency with numerical methods such as optimisation.
Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and the desire to learn and continuously improve.
Approaches a situation or problem by defining the problem or issue and determining its significance.
Requirements Analysis:
The ability to translate complex requirements and define solutions.
Ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Proven experience as a Data Scientist in a technical engineering industry.
Programming languages:
Demonstrable experience of Python programming and relevant libraries (NumPy, Pandas).
Query and Database Access Tools:
Experience with SQL and database technologies such as Snowflake.
Applies appropriate query tools used to connect to the data warehouse.
Accuracy and attention to detail:
Evaluates and makes contributions to best practices.
Processes large quantities of detailed information with high levels of accuracy.
Productively balances speed and accuracy.
Education:
Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
