Our Decision Science teams use industry leading modeling and AI practices to predict customer behavior. We develop, deploy and validate predictive models and support the use of models in economic logic to enable profitable decisions across credit, fraud, marketing and servicing optimization engines.

Key Responsibilities:

Underwriting: Assessing creditworthiness of applicants and establishing profitable acquisition frameworksCustomer Management: Dynamically assessing customer behavior to take appropriate lending decisionsFraud Prevention: Preventing misuse of genuine customers’ information by fraudstersAI Labs: Designing NLP/Generative AI and advanced machine learning based products that enable advanced analytics. Conduct research in NLP/GenAI and associated ML/RL fields.

Other Responsibilities:

Build everything from basic reports to advanced machine learning models and algos to drive improvements to our customer’s online and mobile app experiences.Work with product owners to redefine the product and content design with a data-driven approachCollaborate with tech partners to test, implement and deploy modeling solutions to production systemDevelop insights into customer behavior and introduce new approaches to transform complex behavioral data into useful informationWork with extensive amounts of digital data (Web, App, API) , External data and sophisticated tools in an industry leading Big Data environment.Innovate with a focus on developing newer and better approaches using big data & machine learning solutions

Generally, the role will entail the following responsibilities:

Understand the core business of AXP and the levers behind various decisionsUnderstand the specific business problem at hand and analyze relevant data to derive business insightsTranslate business insights to implementable solutions such as business strategies/data science/ machine learning models

Qualifications

Ideally, a penultimate-year student enrolled in an advanced degree programme (Master’s or PhD) in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or Mathematics), or Master's in Business Administration with hands-on experience using sophisticated analytical and machine learning techniques and be available to intern in May 2026.Ability to learn quickly and work independently with complex, unstructured initiativesHands-on experience on leveraging Machine learning/deep learning/NLP/generative AI techniques for solving problemsAbility to drive project deliverables to achieve business resultsAbility to work effectively in a team environmentStrong communication and interpersonal skillsGood Programming skills - Knowledge of Python, SQLKnowledge of MS Office – PowerPoint, ExcelAbility to learn quickly and work independently with complex, unstructured initiativesHands-on experience on leveraging Machine learning techniques for solving problemsAbility to drive project deliverables to achieve business resultsAbility to work effectively in a team environmentStrong communication and interpersonal skillsGood Programming skills - Knowledge of Python , SQLKnowledge of MS Office – PowerPoint, Excel
