We are seeking a talented individual to join our Data team at Mercer. This role will be based in Melbourne or Sydney. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

As a Data Engineer, you’ll collaborate closely with a passionate team of data architects, scientists, modelers, developers, and business analysts to build and enhance data and analytics platforms that drive smarter decisions and meaningful outcomes across Mercer. Your work will help unlock insights that improve lives and shape the future.
We will count on you to:
Implement a comprehensive, thoughtful, and best-in-class data ingestion, processing and delivery capabilities to support this line of businessBuild reusable and scalable data pipelines and new API integrations to support continuing increases in data volume and complexityWork in tandem with source system and application teams to integrate and establish data pipelinesUnderstand data landscape i.e., tooling, tech stack, source systems etc and work closely with extended platform teams to improve data collection, quality, reporting and analytics capabilitiesCollaborate with analytics, data scientists and business teams to improve data models that feed business intelligence and AI tools, increasing data accessibility, and fostering data-driven decision-making across the organisationParticipate in all aspects of the data platform development lifecycle, including planning, requirements, development, testing, and quality assuranceTroubleshoot incidents, identify root causes, fix, and document problems, and implement preventive measuresDemonstrate exceptional problem-solving skills, with an ability to see and solve issues before they affect business productivityActively contribute toward our culture of continuous learning by proactively identifying and adopting best practicesWhat you need to have:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in EnglishBachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in computer science, information technology, or mathematics7+ years of relevant Data Ingestion/ETL with AI/automation design and development experience, in mission-critical data platforms and complex data ecosystemsExperience with Databricks, Snowflake or similar modern platform architectureStrong Python or similar development experienceExperience with schema design and implementationMust have experience working in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing expectations and requirements (Agile)What makes you stand out:
