CVT - Animal Laboratory Technician II
Certified Vet Tech (Laboratory Technician II) Job Description This is an onsite position where you will play a critical role in maintaining research animal health and assisting with surgical procedures under the supervision of the attending professional. You will support various research activities and studies within the laboratory. Responsibilities + Induce and maintain anesthesia, monitor the physiological status, and take appropriate actions for animals involved in acute or chronic studies. + Assist research or external groups with ongoing studies, including anesthesia, data collection, animal monitoring, instrumentation, surgery, necropsies, and euthanasia. + Adhere to all safety and security policies by maintaining a working knowledge of regulations and complying with SOPs and internal requirements. + Ensure all regulations, procedures, and data collection protocols are followed during studies and communicate any issues to the manager or study director. + Clean and maintain laboratory areas, assist with kennel and animal care, and report animal health status issues to the attending professional. + Accurately maintain records to ensure compliance with regulations, including animal treatment records, data forms, and drug logs. + Coordinate inventory management by sourcing information on supplies and equipment and consulting with the manager on new supply/equipment issues. + Stay informed on equipment, support instruments, test equipment, products, and veterinary techniques by consulting journals and attending training. + Perform acute and survival surgical procedures per protocol and conduct clinical laboratory and radiographic procedures under supervision. + Maintain animal health during studies by consulting on diagnosis and treatment, administering prescribed therapy, and monitoring treatment responses. + Perform pre-purchase physical and vaccination history examinations and assess the suitability of animal shipments. + Assist with or conduct necropsies, properly label and document specimens, photograph gross pathology, and coordinate histopathologic exams. + Assist in pathology assessments by preparing, sending, and receiving specimens to/from contract labs following GLP guidelines. + Compile SOPs/DOPs related to pathology services and address audit observations. + Build quality into all aspects of work by maintaining compliance with quality requirements. Essential Skills + At least 1 year of experience with a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT). + Experience with anesthesia, including IV/IM anesthetics/sedation and constant rate infusions (CRIs). + Trained in basic monitoring skills and ventilator usage. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Research lab experience is helpful but not critical. + Possession of a license or certification in the area of expertise may be required. Work Environment This role offers some flexibility with scheduling. Once trained, hours will typically be from 9 AM to 5:30 PM, with training initially scheduled from 6 AM to 2:30 PM. Scrubs are provided, and a voucher for $140 is available for purchasing work shoes. There is potential for extension or a temp-to-hire opportunity, depending on performance and budget. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Paul, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr.
