Summary

HID Global is looking for a Customs Compliance Officer to ensure that all documentation related to customs import and export activities is maintained, guaranteeing adherence to LMW/VAA regulatory requirements. Responsibilities include coordination with customs officers, freight forwarders, and shipping agents to guarantee smooth clearance and transportation of goods. Position is based in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.


As our CUSTOMS COMPLIANCE OFFICER, you’ll support HID’s success by: 

Handle and organize all customs import and export documentation, ensuring full compliance with LMW (Licensed Manufacturing Warehouse)/VAA (Value Added Activities) regulations. Manage and maintain accurate inventory and customs documentation, including monthly and yearly reports for submission to customs authorities. Coordinate with customs officers, freight forwarders, and shipping agents to ensure smooth clearance and transportation of goods. Liaise with internal departments (production, warehouse, procurement, customer service) and external partners to ensure seamless logistics operations. Support and prepare for customs audits and ensure all export/import activities comply with regulatory requirements. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance trade/customs efficiency, documentation accuracy, and compliance standards. Monitor the expiration date of the VAA license Prepare monthly and yearly Custom reports. Issue shipping (DO, Invoice) for local and export shipments (prepare document for declaration). Perform any other duties assigned by superiors when it is deemed necessary from time to time. Manage requests and obtain individual approvals for import of required equipment/machinery Train internal stakeholders on import compliance best practices and documentation needs Verify and advise clients and agents on the correct HS Codes, documentation, and permits required. Follow up and resolve any discrepancies or issues during the clearance process.

 

 

Your Experience and Background include:  

Bachelor’s Degree/ Diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Minimum 3 years of experience in logistics and customs operations within a manufacturing or export-oriented company. Strong understanding of LMW/VAA procedures and customs regulations. Familiar with K1, K2, K8, K9, GPB-1. Excellent organizational, planning, communication, listening and analytical skills. Experience in HS classification, origin determination. Ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications of highly technical items such as RF/Encrypted products. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple task and meet deadlines. Ability to work in a team environment, while also delivering independent results. Strong sense of time organization and urgency. Ability to effectively multi-task. Strong attention to details. Experience/Ability to work in a matrixed organization. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment. Strategic thinkers have problem-solving skills. Strong analytical capabilities. Passion for setting and meeting aggressive goals. Strong work ethic; unyielding integrity. Able to detect gaps and implement the needed solutions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Working knowledge of trade regulations, tariffs, import/export policies, and custom clearance procedures. Ability to communicate effectively in the Bahasa Malaysia (Malay) and English language verbally and in writing. Ability to read and interpret Customs regulations, technical journals, drawings, specifications, international technical standards of highly technical items such as RF/encrypted products. Proficient in MS Office applications, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. Experience with Oracle ERP and PLM applications preferred, Experience with MS Power BI, Alteryx or another data analytics platform preferred. Ability to travel domestically and internationally (approximately 10%)

Work Requirements

Compliance with all relevant HID Global policies and procedures related to Quality, Security, Safety, Business Continuity, and Environmental systems. Travel and fieldwork, including international travel may be required. Therefore, employee must possess, or be able to acquire a valid passport. Must be legally eligible to work in Malaysia.
