Customer Engineering Product Specialist
**DESCRIPTION** We are looking for a talented Customer Engineering Product Specialist to join our team specializing in engineering for our Cummins’ business in Auburn Hills, MI. **In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:** + Accelerate OEM program success by negotiating with SMEs and VPI teams to align on product data and installation requirements—reducing rework and shortening time-to-launch for Application Engineers and OEM partners. + Improve machine performance and quality through decisive product selection, design, and integration choices—optimizing system efficiency, reliability, and customer satisfaction. + Elevate decision quality by applying and continuously refining core processes (Installation Quality Assurance, OEM integration, product selection) and tools (Advisor, COLS, GCE), enabling consistent, data-driven outcomes across programs. + Strengthen customer trust and responsiveness as the primary technical liaison—managing specs, communicating changes, resolving complex installation issues, and translating customer requests into actionable engineering solutions. + Drive winning product applications by leveraging deep product, application, and market expertise to guide OEM product selection and equipment design—ensuring solutions fit real-world environments and system constraints. + Convert the voice of the customer into requirements that influence program decisions—shaping design reviews, product change processes, and new product development to deliver features that matter most. + Assure flawless installations by validating prototype performance against Cummins requirements, using ALD and Six Sigma tools to optimize product/system performance and prevent downstream quality escapes. + Multiply team capability and throughput by leading smaller-impact projects or complex components independently, coaching junior engineers, and coordinating technicians and student employees—improving process maturity and delivery speed. **RESPONSIBILITIES** **To be successful in this role you will need the following:** **Deep Technical Expertise & Problem-Solving Skills -** Master machine integration, optimization, and product installation quality by applying Cummins’ standard tools, processes, and best practices. Use modeling, simulation, and data-driven analysis to make informed design decisions and resolve complex technical issues quickly. **Strong Customer & Communication Focus -** Build trust and credibility as the primary technical liaison by delivering clear, tailored communications and technical documentation. Understand customer needs deeply to translate them into actionable requirements and ensure uninterrupted business through proactive change management. **Cross-Functional Collaboration & Resourcefulness -** Develop networks inside and outside the organization to secure resources and drive results. Work effectively with SMEs, VPI teams, and OEM counterparts to align on product specifications, installation requirements, and innovative solutions that meet performance, reliability, and cost goals. **Decision Quality & Continuous Improvement Mindset -** Make timely, high-quality decisions in complex situations using proven problem-solving techniques. Apply Six Sigma and Analysis Led Design tools to optimize product/system performance, minimize rework, and lead initiatives that improve processes and customer outcomes. **QUALIFICATIONS** **Education/Experience:** + College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required. Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles. + This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations. + Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making. Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred **Additional Details:** This dual customer/product focused position serves as the technical liaison between Cummins Emission Solutions (CES) and Stellantis for new product development as well as current product support. Applying Cummins' products to customer vehicles requires development of technical specifications, implementing new design configurations, and delivering high performance, low-cost equipment and system solutions integrated with customer products in a variety of applications. This role requires interaction with sales and marketing teams as well as product development & validation teams. This role would be mostly on-site at Cummins' Opdyke facility in Auburn Hills, MI with some opportunities for hybrid work from home days. Mild travel will be required to Chelsea Proving Grounds and occasionally Detroit-area validation test suppliers. **On-Site Engineer Roles & Responsibilities:** 1. Perform vehicle Installation Quality Assurance (IQA) testing. Collect, analyze, and report data. 2. Upload/Download 3D models using customer Teamcenter. Perform clearance measurements & evaluations of installation quality 3. Provide aftertreatment system support for vehicle level testing at Stellantis Chelsea Proving Grounds and Stellantis Technical Center 1. Coordinate CES support of vibration data collection and durability vehicle testing 2. Coordinate part replacement and upfit for prototype validation vehicles 3. Support of in-person meetings 4. Support of pilot center truck builds. 4. Provide local support for external validation at suppliers 5. Product Launch and Current Product Support: 1. Help project teams with troubleshooting and any necessary testing on field test trucks and/or proving grounds 1. Coordinate troubleshooting and return of failed parts **Key Skills** 1.
