Job Description

Custodians are expected to take ownership of the Facilities and Grounds on Campus. This role involves maintaining cleanliness and orderliness throughout the campus, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for students, faculty, and visitors.

ResponsibilitiesClean floors, ramps, and stairs by sweeping, wet mopping/dust mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.Service, clean, and supply restrooms.Gather and empty recycling and trash.Clean and polish fixtures.Replace light bulbs.Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions according to specifications.Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.Steam clean or shampoo carpets.Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.Clean, replace, and hang blinds, drapes, and entrance mats.Collect and deliver soiled items.Clear sidewalks, drives, and adjacent areas; shovel snow.Lock, unlock, and secure buildings; maintain awareness of building conditions and report abnormalities or security concerns.Identify and report needed building repairs.Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.Assist with snow removal activities as necessary.Essential Skills6 months to 1 year of custodial or janitorial experience.Ability to stand and walk for the duration of the shift.Ability to bend and squat to reach hard-to-clean places.Ability to lift and pull up to 50 lbs.Ability to perform work that requires medium to heavy physical effort.Customer service mindset and personality.Additional Skills & QualificationsCommercial or industrial cleaning experience is a plus.Leadership or supervisory experience within custodial or janitorial work in a commercial or industrial setting is a plus.Ability to operate cleaning vehicles such as scrubbers is a plus.Why Work Here?

Work Environment

Custodians work within different zones across campus, primarily attending to administrative buildings but may also work within dorms, halls, and athletic facilities. The role requires physical stamina as custodians stand and work throughout their shifts in a fast-paced environment. You must be willing to get dirty and handle spills, ensuring all areas are clean and presentable. Dangerous or harmful items are not expected to be handled.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $15.00/hr.
