Class Summary
Job Description
The Crime and Intelligence Analyst is a three (3) level position series. The Sheriff's Office may make selections at any of the three (3) levels. The Crime and Intelligence Analyst conducts research and investigations of suspects and provides tactical and strategic intelligence to operations personnel and management through briefings, reports and presentations. series and provides analytical and research support to law enforcement personnel. This position also researches databases, analyzes criminal statistics, reviews case files and incident reports, and maintains intelligence records to identify crime trends and patterns. The analyst further maintains investigative documentation in compliance with federal guidelines and prepares reports, court-related documentation, and analytical products to support criminal investigations, trial preparation, and resource allocation.
Essential Duties
+ Assisting in executing wiretaps, surveillance activities, and other investigative research operations
+ Conducting investigative research and analyzing information in support of criminal investigations
+ Developing criminal history summaries and statistical reports related to crime trends and activity
+ Generating and responding to information requests from the general public, Board of Commissioners, and other governmental officials or agencies
+ Preparing, editing, and distributing crime bulletins, alerts, and BOLOs to inform departments and partner agencies of potential criminal activity
+ Operating computers, databases, and applicable software to retrieve, analyze, and maintain intelligence information
+ Maintaining compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, and confidentiality standards
+ Communicating effectively with coworkers, supervisors, law enforcement personnel, and the public to exchange information and receive work direction
+ Supporting interagency coordination by sharing relevant intelligence and analytical products
+ Performing other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned
Public Speaking Duties
+ Represents the department at meetings, conferences, and external agencies on matters related to intelligence operations (Level III).
Minimum Qualifications
Crime and Intelligence Analyst I ($47,424 - $61,650)
+ Associate's degree in criminal justice or a related field, AND
+ One year experience performing in an analytical capacity OR one year experience in a law enforcement capacity, OR
+ An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
+ Licensing Requirements
+ Valid Driver's License from the state of residency.
+ Georgia Crime Information Center/National Crime Information Center (GCIC/NCIC) Certification within the six months of hire.
+ Crime and Intelligence Analyst certification from California State University, Sacramento within one year or at department discretion.
Crime and Intelligence Analyst II ($56,086 - $72,911)
+ Associate's degree in criminal justice or a related field, AND
+ One year of employment as a Crime and Intelligence Analyst with the Sheriff's Office OR
+ An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
+ Licensing Requirements
+ Valid Driver's License from the state of residency.
+ Georgia Crime Information Center/National Crime Information Center (GCIC/NCIC) Certification.
+ Crime and Intelligence Analyst certification from California State University, Sacramento.
Crime and Intelligence Analyst III ($66,331 - $87,888)
+ Associate's degree in criminal justice or a related field, AND
+ Three years of employment as a Crime and Intelligence Analyst II with the Sheriff's Office, OR
+ An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
+ Licensing Requirements
+ Valid Driver's License from the state of residency.
+ Georgia Crime Information Center/National Crime Information Center (GCIC/NCIC) Certification.
+ Crime and Intelligence Analyst certification from California State University, Sacramento.
+ Field Training Officer training within one year of hire.
+ Certification as Criminal Intelligence Analysts (IALEIA) or Certified Crime Analyst through the International Association of Crime Analysts (IACA).
Other Job Requirements/Information
+ Background investigation, which may include motor vehicle & criminal histories, and fingerprinting.
+ This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after hours, weekends, and/or holidays.
Grade
This position is grade B231 (Level I), grade B251 (Level II), and grade C421 (Level III) .
Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.
