Location: Vestal, NY Category: Professional & Support Staff Posted On: Tue Feb 10 2026 Job Description: The Public Archaeology Facility The Public Archaeology Facility (PAF) is a research center at Binghamton University (Binghamton, NY) organized in 1972 to provide cultural heritage management services to clients throughout the Northeastern United States, but with a focus on New York State and Pennsylvania. Our services include: + Phase 1A Cultural Resource Sensitivity Assessments + Phase 1B Archaeological Surveys + Phase 2 Archaeological Site Evaluations + Phase 3 Data Recoveries/Mitigations + Historic Architectural Surveys (including HABS/HAER Documentation) + Archaeological Monitoring + Geoarchaeology and Remote Sensing + Flotation + Lithic and Pottery Analysis + Non-Technical Community Outreach Programs PAF projects cover the areas of transportation, gas pipelines, wind farms, solar farms, communication towers, hydroelectric relicensing, mining permits, buried utilities, and other State or Federally permitted developments. About the Position Crew Chiefs assist Project Directors on field projects. In some cases, under the supervision of a Project Director, the Assistant Director, or the Director, crew chiefs oversee and lead an archaeological crew during archaeological surveys and excavations on local and overnight projects according to Cultural Resource Management (CRM) professional standards. Crew chiefs oversee the collection and recording of archaeological data in the field and assist in the lab. In some cases, crew chiefs may be asked to assist in the preparation of technical reports. Job Requirements: + Bachelor's degree or equivalent in anthropology, archaeology, public archaeology, or related field with two years of supervised archaeological experience in a cultural resource management (CRM) program. Note: The education and experience requirements described in this position may be satisfied by an equivalent combination + Solid communication and organizational skills. Preferred + Expertise in the archaeology of New York State or nearby areas.
