Job Description

Begin your journey as a Crane Operator, starting with a comprehensive training program designed to familiarize you with inventory locations. You will shadow an experienced trainer, mastering skills such as learning color codes for steel, warehouse placement, and crane operation tailored to your previous experience.

ResponsibilitiesTrain in inventory location identification and crane operation.Shadow trainers in learning color codes for steel and warehouse placement.Operate indoor and outdoor cranes, adhering to safety protocols.Perform housekeeping duties associated with crane operation.Move materials using overhead cranes and load flatbed trailers and railcars.Complete shipping reports, bills of lading, and document all outgoing loads.Adhere to safety rules and non-negotiables around flatbed trucks and railcar systems.Opportunity to train as a saw or brake operator, forklift operator, or steel bending machine operator.Essential SkillsMust have heavy industrial or construction experience.Ability to walk for 8-10 hour shifts (approximately 8 miles per day).Comfortable with working both indoors and outdoors, exposed to varying elements.Capability to lift up to 50 lbs, although most lifting is done by crane.Experience operating heavy equipment safely and effectively.Ability to read a tape measure and retain information based on color coding.Overhead crane experience or similar experience in heavy industry or military.Additional Skills & QualificationsConstruction experience of 1-2 years.Manufacturing experience of 1-2 years.Experience with forklift operation, bobcat, overhead crane, band saw, sheet metal, inventory, and distribution centers.Why Work Here?

Work Environment

The work environment spans both indoor and outdoor settings, with steel stored in a vast area of 200,000 square feet. Expect extreme temperatures, very hot summers, and cold winters. The facility offers a construction-like atmosphere, requiring hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toed boots with metatarsals, and safety vests. Predominantly gravel flooring creates an uneven surface similar to a construction site. Training occurs on day shifts before transitioning to off shifts, ensuring proficiency in independent operation.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Petersburg, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
