Course: EAST 230 001 First Level Chinese. (9 credits)

Course details: Asian Language & Literature : Introduction to the basic structures of Mandarin Chinese, Pin-yin romanization and 750 characters for reading and writing. Emphasis on developing aural and oral skills through communication games and interaction activities. Animated films are used as part of teaching materials.

Contract dates: April 17, 2026 – July 27, 2026

Course Start and End Dates: May 1, 2026 - July 13, 2026

Additional information

This is a 9 credit course to be co-taught by two Course Lecturers.

Each course lecturer will teach 4.5 credits. Please note that, this course is taught daily (Monday to Friday, for 2.5 months) at 4 hours per day.

Teaching Qualification Requirements

Education:

M.A. in Linguistics, applied Linguistics, and/or foreign language education.
 

Experience

Teaching Chinese as an instructor at the college level, as well as interest in upper-level instruction in translation. 
 

Other

Must be able to teach Chinese language at the introductory level and possess native or near-native fluency in Chinese with an excellent command of English. This course may be co-taught.

g) meeting with students, being available to answer questions and give advice concerning Course content and requirements;
