County Engagement Public Health Intern

Job Description

Program Details 

Duration: 10-week internship from May 18 – July 24, 2026 

Schedule: Full-time (40 hours/week) 

Work Environment: Hybrid – remote work from the state of North Carolina with onsite events at our Durham campus 

Residency Requirement: Interns must reside in the state of North Carolina for the duration of the program 

Experience: Hands-on project work that supports our customers and strengthens communities across North Carolina 

Mentorship: Interns are paired with a mentor and receive regular feedback to support their development  

  

What You’ll Do 

Join the County Engagement Team, where we work to deepen county relationships and understand unique local perspectives to provide the best service and support to agencies, organizations, and individuals across all 100 counties. As an intern, you’ll support Public Health Initiatives and Healthy Blue (Blue Cross NC’s Medicaid Offering), gaining exposure to population health program development focused on child health and community stakeholder engagement around important health topics. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute to work that drives real change in healthcare. 

What You Bring 

Currently enrolled in a degree seeking academic program, ideally in Public Health, Health Sciences, Social Work or related fields 

Strong curiosity, drive, and ability to work independently and collaboratively 

Excellent time management and communication skills 

 

Bonus Points 

Experience with project development concepts 

Previous internship, volunteer, or project experience in community engagement, public health, or health equity initiatives. 

Passion for improving health outcomes for children and adolescents 

Compensation: 

Rising Sophomore: $20/hr 

Rising Junior/Senior $22/hr 

Masters / JD: $29/hr  

MBA / PharmD: $36/hr 

 

Salary Range

At Blue Cross NC, we take great pride in a fair and equitable compensation package that reflects market-price and our starting salaries are typically planned near the middle of the range listed. Compensation decisions are driven by factors including experience and training, specialized skill sets,  licensure and certifications and other business and organizational needs. Our base salary is part of a robust Total Rewards package that includes an Annual Incentive Bonus*, 401(k) with employer match, Paid Time Off (PTO), and competitive health benefits and wellness programs. 

*Based on annual corporate goal achievement and individual performance.
 

$41,600.00 - $66,561.00
