Cost Engineer
Permanent Placement Title or Role: Cost Engineer Compensation: $175,000 + bonus and benefits - commensurate with experience Location: Hybrid (US) Company Description: Our Client is an industrial-scale data center construction and operations company. They allocate data center opportunities between bitcoin mining and other high performance computing services, such as AI. They continue to develop there pipeline of power capacity at high-quality data center sites, either for bitcoin mining or HPC. Position Description: We are seeking a Cost Engineer to manage budget development, cost tracking, cash flow forecasting, and financial reporting across a portfolio of fast-paced hyperscale data center construction projects. This role bridges project execution and corporate finance, ensuring cost data is accurate, timely, and decision-ready. Ideal candidates will have experience in construction cost engineering or project controls, and a proven ability to coordinate multiple vendors and contractors within a lean organizational structure. Responsibilities: + Develop and maintain project budgets through all phases, including conceptual estimates and control budgets. + Ensure alignment between scope, schedule, and cost baselines. + Track and manage original budgets, approved changes, and forecast at completion. + Monitor real-time project costs and produce accurate monthly cost reports and forecasts. + Identify early warning signs of cost overruns, burn rate acceleration, and cash flow risk. + Develop and maintain cash flow forecasts aligned with project schedules. + Review vendor and contractor invoices for accuracy, compliance, and progress alignment. + Track and manage change orders, potential change events, and contingency usage. + Develop standardized cost reporting and dashboards across projects. + Provide consistent financial data to PMO and executive leadership. Qualifications: + 8–15+ years of experience in construction cost engineering, project controls, or commercial management. + Strong background in heavy commercial, industrial, energy, or infrastructure projects. + Experience managing project budgets from multi-million to hundreds-of-millions dollars. + Solid understanding of construction contracts, cost behavior, and forecasting. + High proficiency in Excel, financial modeling, and cost tracking tools. Preferred Skills + Experience with data center or mission-critical facility construction. + Knowledge of fast-track or design-build delivery models. + Experience working with corporate finance teams and accounting systems. + Familiarity with change management and claims avoidance. Education & Certifications: + Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, or equivalent experience.
