Cost Accountant
Description We are looking for a dedicated Cost Accountant to join our team in Bay City, Michigan. This role is crucial in analyzing and optimizing financial performance, ensuring accurate cost methodologies, and providing valuable insights to support business decisions. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in cost accounting within the manufacturing industry and possess strong analytical and communication skills. Responsibilities: • Conduct detailed performance analyses against strategic goals, budgets, forecasts, and historical data to identify risks, opportunities, and areas for improvement. • Ensure consistent and accurate cost methodologies for products, projects, and services, including both standard and actual cost analysis. • Develop, enhance, and maintain financial tools, processes, and key performance indicators to improve data reliability and visibility. • Collaborate with General Management and Finance leadership to translate complex financial data into actionable insights. • Represent financial requirements, maintain data integrity, and meet reporting needs in organizational and system initiatives. • Provide expertise in costing and investment analysis, supporting managers and analysts with post-implementation reviews and valuation activities. • Support accounting close activities, including inventory valuation, forecasting, production close processes, and inventory counts. • Oversee inventory governance processes such as reconciliation, forecasting, and planning to ensure accurate reporting. • Partner with cross-functional teams to optimize inventory tracking and analysis, contributing to overall operational efficiency. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Manufacturing industry experience is required. JD Edwards is highly preferred but not required. • 6-10 years of experience in cost accounting within the manufacturing sector, with attention to detail. • Proficiency in standard and actual cost accounting methodologies. • Strong expertise in inventory analysis, forecasting, and reconciliation. • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex financial data and provide actionable insights. • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and account analysis processes. • Solid understanding of bill of materials (BOM) and inventory tracking systems. • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate across departments.
