Job Description: COSMETOLOGY/BARBER INSTRUCTOR - Certified Hourly GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Teaching high school Cosmetology/Barbering Program students who are working towards a Utah Cosmetology/Barbering License, using a variety of teaching methods such as lectures, demonstrations, assisting students with client salon services and using technological aids to supplement lessons and presentations. Position is a part time on an as needed basis. Education + Cosmetology/Barber license through Utah Department of Professional Licensing, required. + Cosmetology/Barber Instructor’s License through Utah Department of Professional Licensing, required. Experience + Must have at least three (3) years of full-time experience as a licensed cosmetologist and be familiar with all aspects of the industry. + Some level of teaching or training experience is preferred. Essential Functions + Performance-based objectives and outlines for course of study following curriculum guidelines and requirements. + Organize practical and technical instruction, including: demonstrations of skills required in the cosmetology and barber professions, lectures in theory, techniques, and terminology. + Instructs students in subject areas such as use, maintenance, safe operation of tools and equipment, and regulations related to the Cosmetology/Barber License. + Instructs students in the importance of accuracy, neatness, efficiency, resourcefulness and good work habits in obtaining employment as Cosmetologist/Barber. + Presents subject matter to students, utilizing a variety of methods and techniques, such as lectures, discussions and/or demonstrations. + Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning objectives. + + Enforces classroom protocols, rules and expectations; maintains classroom discipline; utilizes effective classroom management techniques. + Attends meetings and trainings per requirements of Team Lead Instructor. Proficiency In The Following Areas + Full scope of Cosmetology + Full scope of Barbering + Hair Color Formulation + Current Hair Color Techniques + Hair Cutting + Hair Extensions + Health and Safety/Hazardous Substances + Disinfection and Sanitation Skills + Demonstrated excellent oral communication skills + Sound instructional skills + Able to exercise sound judgment.
