The Wyoming State Penitentiary is seeking aCorrectional Skilled Trades Supervisor. This position oversees staff within the Physical Plant who support building, general, and preventive maintenance functions across the facility. The Trades Supervisor coordinates daily work assignments, ensures projects are completed safely and efficiently, and supports the ongoing upkeep of institutional infrastructure in accordance with department policies, safety standards, and operational needs. Human Resource Contac t: megan.sims@wyo.gov or 307-857-3326 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level. + Manages and supervises all skilled building and maintenance trades positions. + Assigns daily work to appropriate trades staff, performs daily building, grounds, and equipment inspections, and manages daily cleaning of assigned buildings. + Completes follow-up and tracks work orders to progress with subordinates. + Attends all meetings and coordinates with various outside agencies, contractors, and vendors. + Performs, plans, and implements major maintenance and construction projects and upgrades to all mechanical, plumbing, heating, and landscaping or target systems. + Meets with general contractors, architects, and engineers to determine the most effective and efficient products and procedures for the safety, durability, and necessary uses of buildings and infrastructures. + Responsible for the inspection, analysis, diagnosis, and planning of all mechanical, plumbing, structural, and maintenance activities for all buildings and systems continuously. + Reviews and ensures all policies and procedures are being followed by physical plant staff. + Authorizes purchases conducted by the maintenance department. + Manages inventories, tools, and supplies. + Plans, schedules, and writes specifications for maintenance projects. + Performs any necessary and needed functions of the physical plant, including escorting contractors and assisting with general, building, and preventive maintenance. Qualifications PREFERENCES: Preference will be given to those with 5 or more years in management and work experience in Skilled Trades. KNOWLEDGE: + Knowledge of all electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, domestic water distribution, and sewer. + Knowledge of building planning, construction, and supervision of projects. + Knowledge of structural and mechanical techniques used in the construction of buildings. + Knowledge of federal, state, and agency purchasing and property control procedures. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor's Degree (typically in Management) Experience: 0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Skilled Trades) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Skilled Trades Supervisor OR Education & Experience Substitution: 4-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Skilled Trades) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Skilled Trades Supervisor Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None Necessary Special Requirements PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: + Climbing on an occasional to regular basis + Lifting/grasping up to 50 pounds without assistance regularly + Walking/standing on cement floors regularly + Walking up and down stairs regularly + Balancing on an occasional basis + Stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching regularly + Crawling on an occasional basis + Pushing/pulling/reaching regularly + Speaking/hearing frequently + May work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions + Perform maintenance on equipment that may not be visible and would require being completed by feel or touch on an occasional basis + The visual ability to operate machinery and perform mechanical or skilled trade duties + The visual ability to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned + Computer literate NOTES: + FLSA: Non-Exempt + This position must pass a background check. + The Wyoming Department of Corrections is a Drug-Free Workplace.
