We seek motivated individuals to be Correctional Officers in the Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution. This facility serves as a primary education and treatment center for inmates identified as requiring high levels of protective custody, as well as those who need medical, mental health, dental, substance abuse, life skills, cognitive and behavioral, and/or sex offender treatment services. The Wyoming Department of Corrections operates this medium-security facility. To maintain institutional safety standards, the position requires the following: + Enforcement of rules and regulations. + Responding to post orders of varied assigned posts. + Supervising inmates in the performance of various jobs; modeling appropriate, pro-social behavior. + Assisting in a variety of searches, including checking for contraband items. + Observing daily inmate living, programming, work areas, and the perimeter fence line, reporting security violations. + Conducting daily scheduled counts of inmates. + Assuming duties of housing control centers, central control centers, and inmate living areas monitoring inmate movements. + Becoming familiar with inmate names and characteristics for easier identification of inmate movements and infractions. + Assisting in restraining unruly inmates, utilizing the minimum amount of force required. + Assisting in transporting inmates within and off institution boundaries, including inter- and intra-state predetermined destinations. + Assisting in processing newly incarcerated inmates or the appropriate out-processing of released inmates. + Attending required training to perform duties at an acceptable level. + Commitment to public safety and high correctional standards, as well as a safe, supportive working environment for our employees.
