Position : Paralegal (Michael Kors Japan / Korea)
Report : CFO Japan & Korea
Location : Michael Kors Japan (Minato-ku, Tokyo)
* Korea-related work will be supported mainly remotely.
Position Summary
This position supports legal and intellectual property matters for Michael Kors Japan and Korea.
The Paralegal will handle a wide range of tasks including legal documents (especially daily contracts) review and management, legal risk assessment, liaison and coordination with outside counsel, intellectual property (anti-counterfeit) matters, company secretary matters and compliance-related work. The role works closely with APAC Legal and provides legal support to the business. English will be used regularly for document reading/translation and email communication.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Risk Assessment
Conduct initial assessment of legal risks related to business activities in Japan and Korea.Provide first-line legal advisory to internal legal inquiries (contracts, advertising, consumer protection, commercial transactions, labor matters, etc.).Organize legal issues and escalate to APAC Legal and/or outside counsel when needed.Company Secretary
Manage the filing and maintenance of the licenses and certificates of Michael Kors Japan and Korea.Support the appointment/removal of the executive manager/director of Michael Kors Japan and Korea (if necessary).Legal Documents Review and Management
Conduct initial review and prepare amendments for NDAs, service agreements, marketing agreements, store-related agreements, and commercial contracts.Coordinate contract terms with internal departments.Manage contract records (tracking deadlines, maintaining logs, electronic filing, database maintenance).Support standardization and process improvement of contract workflows.Liaison and Coordination with Outside Counsel
Work with APAC Legal to serve as a contact point for outside counsel in Japan and Korea.Prepare background information and materials, and share legal advice internally.Conduct initial checks of documents prepared by outside counsel and emphasize legal risks.Intellectual Property / Anti-Counterfeit (Customs & Brand Protection)
Support customs procedures related to counterfeit product enforcement (administrative inquiries, responses, etc.).Coordinate among internal teams, outside counsel, and customs authorities.Collect and organize counterfeit-related information and prepare internal reports.Manage IP-related materials and evidence for brand protection.Support anti-counterfeit projects with APAC and Global IP teams.Collaboration with Global / APAC Legal
Respond to requests from Global and APAC Legal.Support localization and rollout of APAC/Global policies in Japan and Korea.Assist with preparation of compliance materials, training, and data management.Other Legal Support
Research, collect and summarize legal and regulatory updates (Japan and Korea).Provide first-line support for troubleshooting (customer claims, vendor issues, etc.).Prepare materials for internal legal/IP training sessions.Assist with administrative tasks for government filings or inquiries.Other ad-hoc projects assigned by Global and APAC Legal.Requirements
Must Have:
2–3+ years of experience as a paralegal or legal support professional in the legal department of a retail company or law firm.Experience reviewing contracts.Ability to read emails and documents in English and conduct basic English communication.Strong documentation and time-management skills.High compliance awareness and understanding of confidentiality obligations.Nice to Have:Experience in anti-counterfeit or intellectual property matters (trademark, copyright, etc.).Understanding of Korean legal matters or Korean language skills.Experience in fashion or luxury industry.Experience in legal work at a multinational company.Personal Attributes
