Description
Amazon’s Legal Department is looking for a talented commercial lawyer to fill the position of Corporate Counsel in Tokyo. The role will support Amazon Web Services (AWS), a dynamic and rapidly growing business within Amazon.com. AWS is at the forefront of the cloud computing and service industry, providing IT infrastructure services such as on-demand compute capacity, storage, content delivery, database services, browsers and more.
Key job responsibilities
This Corporate Counsel will be based in Japan and will primarily support AWS’s Sales and Marketing teams in Japan and the broader Asia-Pacific region.
The successful candidate will be responsible for drafting a range of IT service agreements, technology licensing agreements and other high-value agreements with AWS’s Japanese customers and partners. They will also lead key regional and global initiatives to address emerging regulatory and policy issues, and to support the growth of AWS Japan’s business.
In this role, you will provide strategic and day-to-day legal advice, work on key business development initiatives, regulatory issues, and handle pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries.
Compensation is based on experience and includes equity compensation.
Basic Qualifications
- Law degree from a reputable university or college
- Licensed to practice law in Japan and/or the United States or other common law jurisdiction
- 5 or more years legal experience (PQE) with experience at a leading global law firm and/or in-house at a major multinational corporation; more experienced candidates should still apply
- Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to summarize complex issues and ideas clearly and concisely
- Ability to work independently and proactively, while also collaborating effectively with other legal team members and global business teams
- Must have strong ability to communicate orally and in writing, draft agreements and negotiate in both Japanese and English
Preferred Qualifications
- In-house experience at a technology company or in a private practice technology group.
- Familiarity with IT/technology licensing, outsourcing and services agreements.
- Understanding of intellectual property, competition and privacy issues.
