The Coordinator of Academic Services works directly with the Site Director, the Academic Advisor, and the NYU Berlin Academics Team to promote academic life for students and lecturers and ensure that they feel they belong to the NYU Berlin academic community. This entails helping create and carrying out the academic orientation program for students, planning co-curricular and extracurricular activities as well as events based on student requests or current developments, upholding NYU’s academic policies, monitoring students’ progress, and advising students with a range of academic questions or concerns. The Coordinator of Academic Services also provides support to freelance lecturers and academic staff by advising them on the use of teaching technology and NYU student and academic culture. Moreover, the Coordinator of Academic Services provides administrative support to the Site Director and aids in the production of written academic communication, documents, and presentations.

Advise new lecturers on NYU student and academic culture.Support the onboarding process for new faculty and the offboarding process for departing faculty.Support lecturers having challenging conversations with students.Promote exchange with lecturers and among lecturers, as well as a sense of community among faculty as a whole.Attend faculty meetings and contribute to their content, in consultation with the Academic Advisor.Academic Support of Students (25%)
Work with NYU’s electronic student registry (adhering to the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation and FERPA requirements).Assist students with academic related questions.Uphold NYU’s academic policies and monitor students’ progress, including attendance records of students.Assist in the provision of academic support to students with disabilities and with accommodations from NYU’s Moses Center.Coordinate integrating visiting students into NYU’s systems, including conducting check-ins.Support students with academic difficulties during their semester, lecturers, and the Office of Global Programs.In collaboration with the Student Life team, act as a liaison for the Wasserman Center, communicate Wasserman events to students, arrange a career event for students, inform students about scholarships and opportunities to return to Germany for work or study after their degree.15% Support for Classes
Help proofread 30 to 40 course syllabi per semester.Assist in the processing of student evaluations of courses.Supervise Program Assistant, Academics in advising part-time lecturers and academic staff on the use of teaching technology.Supervise Program Assistant, Academics in advising new lecturers in learning management systems (i.e. NYU’s electronic teaching software Brightspace) and in the use of audiovisual technology at NYU Berlin.10% Administrative
Provide administrative support to the Site Director and the Academic Advisor.Coordinate faculty and other visits from New York and other Academic Centers by serving as a liaison.Maintain the academic aspects of NYU Berlin’s website (NYU’s version of CMS) with the help of other staff.Edit NYU Berlin publications.
Required Education
Successful completion of a Master’s Degree.Required Experience
Experience in producing and editing texts in English (such as handbooks, newsletters, etc.).A minimum of three years prior experience working in a research/academic environment.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Outstanding German and English language skills (bilingual preferred).Excellent intercultural and interpersonal communication skills. Confident public speaker and presenter, comfortable addressing diverse groups of students, faculty and high-level administrators.Service excellence and delivery of high-quality solutions. Strong ability to prioritize and multitask with a creative approach to problem-solving.Ability to organize and deliver academic events for up to 100 participants.High level of flexibility and attention to detail.Strong sense of teamwork as well as the ability to work independently.Ability to work on a few Saturdays and a few evenings per year.Familiarity with presentation/classroom/office technology.Demonstrated commitment to the values of accessibility, diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and sustainability.Familiarity with macOS, Microsoft Windows, Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Suite (e.g.InDesign).Required Work permit
