Coordinating Nurse
About the role

The MedAire Nurse is responsible for assessing the fitness of passengers with medical conditions reported by airline staff at the check-in counters or the Airport Gate via phone. Medical conditions that are beyond the nurse’s scope, will promptly be escalated to the MedAire doctor for further assessment and direction. This role is entirely desk-based but requires strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and rapid decision-making.

Key responsibilities

A. Case Management
•    Receive calls from airline crew regarding passengers with declared or observed medical conditions.
•    Assess the passenger’s condition based on information gathered verbally.
•    Determine whether the passenger is fit to fly according to MedAire guidelines.
•    Identify red-flag symptoms requiring doctor review or denial of boarding.
•    Document all assessments, decisions, and advice accurately.
•    Provide medically appropriate triaging, monitoring, and case management of various case types, as needed, including crew support and/or luxury yacht cases.
•    Ensure appropriate medical outcomes and monitor cases to closure. 

B. Communication & Coordination
•    Communicate effectively in English and Hindi; proficiency in multiple Indian languages is preferred.
•    Liaise with airline staff, medical officers, and emergency responders when needed.
•    Maintain clear, calm, and professional communication with cabin crew and pilots during high-pressure or time-sensitive situations.

C. Compliance & Quality Assurance
•    Follow MedAire guidelines and escalation pathways.
•    Maintain all client, crew, and/or passenger information that may be encountered either directly or indirectly while in the performance of the job in strict confidence in accordance with any/all pertinent confidentiality and privacy regulations.
•    Participate in periodic training, simulation exercises, and quality improvement meetings.

About you

Required
•    Registered Nurse (BSc Nursing)
•    3–5 years of clinical experience, preferably in Emergency Room or Intensive Care Unit 
•    Strong triage skills and experience handling acute cases
•    Excellent communication skills in English and Hindi
•    Ability to make quick, evidence-based decisions independently on the phone

Preferred
•    Familiarity with aviation medical guidelines 
•    Knowledge of additional Indian languages
•    Prior experience in telephonic triage or remote medical assistance
•    Basic computer skills and ability to handle digital documentation efficiently

4. SOFT SKILLS REQUIRED
•    Ability to maintain composure during medical emergencies and high-stress calls.
•    Strong ability to assess incomplete information and make safe decisions.
•    Ability to explain medical advice in simple terms to non-medical crew.
•    Helpful when interacting with distressed crew or handling anxious passenger scenarios.
•    Ability to anticipate deterioration and red flags.
•    Works well with doctors, crew and medical leadership.
•    Precise and concise record-keeping skills.
•    Especially important in a multi-lingual airport environment.
•    Undertake work hours as per published roster
