**Cook** **Job Description** Responsible for the preparation of quality foods for patients, employees, and guests. **Responsibilities** + Assemble all food and non-food items necessary for use during the shift. + Cook and bake food for meal service according to the day’s menu, ensuring quality assurance regarding appearance, taste, and temperature. + Prepare menu items in accordance with forecasted or tallied quantities and follow established departmental recipes. + Ensure food is prepared before customer service meetings, before the meal. Document quantity and disposition of leftovers in accordance with departmental policy. + Operate and maintain departmental equipment in a safe, orderly, and efficient manner. Inform the supervisor of malfunctioning, damaged, and/or unsafe equipment. + Maintain work areas and equipment in a clean, neat, organized, and sanitary manner. Complete special and/or detailed cleaning projects as assigned. Dispose of trash and obvious clutter as necessary. + Assist with the orientation of new staff members by demonstrating the basic duties of the job. + Attend in-services and other departmental meetings and training sessions as required, including all line-up meetings. **Essential Skills** + Proficiency in food service + Experience as a line cook + Skill in food preparation and cooking + Ability to follow recipes **Additional Skills & Qualifications** + Experience in a food service environment + Experience in a hospital setting is a plus **Why Work Here?** This is a contract-to-hire position with the opportunity to be permanently hired by a major DC hospital, offering hospital benefits.
