Job Title: Controls Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer with four to six years of expertise in large DC motor drive systems, computer network systems & wiring, and process control theory within a metalworking manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in applying machine control equipment, process control instrumentation, and associated software. Competency in OHSA, EPA, and other health & safety regulations is required.
Responsibilities
+ Write and implement PLC programs, specifically for Control Logix System, HMIs, microcontrollers, servo drives, and vision systems.
+ Utilize RS Logix 5000 Enterprise Series software proficiently.
+ Apply automation theory, electrical circuits, electrical and mechanical drawings, and simulation software effectively.
+ Design advanced electronic control systems for mechanical systems.
+ Maintain technical project files meticulously.
+ Design advanced precision equipment for accurate or controlled applications.
+ Research, select, and apply sensors, communication technologies, or control devices for motion control, position sensing, pressure sensing, or electronic communication.
+ Design, develop, or implement control circuits or algorithms for electromechanical or pneumatic devices or systems.
+ Create mechanical and electrical drawings using CAD software.
+ Lead capital projects to enhance plant equipment and processes, improving productivity, reliability, and operating costs.
+ Provide technical support for the repair, modification, and upgrade of existing equipment, processes, infrastructure, and facility systems.
+ Provide technical assistance to Metallurgical Lab personnel in specifying and implementing new equipment and instrumentation to improve metal quality.
+ Provide technical assistance to Chemical Lab personnel in specifying and implementing new equipment and instrumentation to measure product quality.
+ Provide technical direction to electricians in maintaining plant electrical equipment and instrumentation.
+ Secure outside electricians for project work and maintenance of plant electrical distribution system.
+ Assist maintenance by transferring project engineering information for newly installed equipment.
+ Assist with technical evaluations of electrical machinery and devices following catastrophic failure.
+ Participate in and provide technical support to quality improvement teams.
+ Provide monthly review of activities and issues.
Essential Skills
+ PLC programming expertise.
+ Delivery of controls and electrical engineering services integrating mechanical systems, electronic controls, and computer science.
+ Experience with Rockwell electrical instrumentation.
+ Proficiency in RS Logix 5000 Enterprise Series software.
+ Competency in the application of OHSA, EPA, and other health & safety regulations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Technical assistance in specification and implementation of new equipment and instrumentation.
+ Technical direction in maintaining plant electrical equipment and instrumentation.
Work Environment
The work environment involves leading electrical engineering initiatives to support both plant and capital projects, improving productivity, reliability, and operating costs. The role includes providing technical support for repair, modification, and upgrade of existing equipment, processes, infrastructure, and facility systems. The position may require securing outside electricians for project work and maintenance of the plant electrical distribution system. This role is integral to the technical evaluations of electrical machinery and devices following catastrophic failure, ensuring quality improvement and operational excellence.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Johnson City, TN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $125000.00/hr.
