Controls Engineer
Job Description Key Responsibilities Application-based sizing and selection of instruments and control devices for complex mechanical and process systems including HVAC, chilled water, and compressed air systems Create, review, and update controls engineering documentation and drawings using AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit Initiate instrument datasheets, RFQ packages, and perform technical bid evaluations to procure control devices Work with vendors and contractors to review designs and ensure compliance with documentation standards Participate in development of scalable network architectures for plant-wide high reliability control systems Collaborate with HMI developers and programmers to optimize data exchange and enhance system usability Support construction teams and contractors to optimally execute scopes of work Generate construction drawings including 2D and 3D content to accurately define installation scope of work Provide expertise and support for system outages and failover incidents Review mechanical, process, and plumbing drawings to properly size and select flow, pressure, and temperature sensors Configure controls networks including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, and serial communication protocols Perform field work and on-site system validation We are a company committed to creating diverse and inclusive environments where people can bring their full, authentic selves to work every day. Skills and Requirements Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Control Systems, Computer Science and Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, or Automation Engineering 2-5 years of hands-on experience as Controls Engineer, Instrumentation Engineer, or Applications Engineer working on automation and/or electromechanical systems Experience with control valve sizing, datasheet initiation, and ANSI standards for instrumentation Experience working with cooler and chiller plants (essential for data center cooling systems) Familiarity with controls-based software like SPI (InTools) to initiate instrument lists, wiring terminations, and calibrated ranges Advanced knowledge of industrial process and manufacturing equipment, including safety systems Proficiency in Siemens, Allen Bradley, or Beckhoff PLC platforms Experience selecting appropriate circuit protectors, wire and cable, sensors, safety hardware, PLC hardware, remote I/O, VFDs, and instrumentation Proficiency with AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit for technical drawings Ability to review mechanical, process, and plumbing drawings for proper instrumentation sizing and selection Familiarity with HMI platforms, particularly Ignition and WinCC Advanced proficiency in modern text-based programming languages (Python, Java, C, VB) Database systems experience (MSSQL, MySQL, Access) Experience transitioning products and processes from concept to production Data center or facility infrastructure experience (not required but beneficial)
